Weekend in January or not there is plenty of news in Major League Baseball’s hot stove. Ryan Madson, Brad Hawpe, Ryan Ludwick, Kerry Wood, and Arthur Rhodes are all looking for where they will play in 2012 while Manny Ramirez gets a look from a few teams.Ryan Madson is still jobless after nearly signing a 4 year $44 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. Since that deal fell through, the musical chair of closers has ended up with numerous big names changing teams and Madson being the guy left without a chair. His asking price will have to substantially decrease and one team could end up with a bargain on a guy that had 32 saves in 2011 and a 2.37 ERA. According to CBS Sports the Texas Rangers have inquired about Madson’s services. The Rangers signed Joe Nathan but look to be open to adding another closer after also discussing Andrew Bailey with the A’s before he was traded to Boston. It is hard to believe the Rangers would be willing to spend more than $8 million on the tall r...

Wood in red pinstripes? Maybe. (Photo: SB Nation)According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Phillies feel they are one bullpen piece short of a full house and are interested in the service of longtime Cubs reliever Kerry Wood. The 34-year-old Wood has spent most of his career in Chicago and wanted to return to the team, but the two sides have been unable to come to terms this...
The Texas Rangers took an interesting approach at the 2011 trade deadline. Instead of seeking big-time impact talent in the lineup or rotation, they sought to shore up the bullpen. Jon Daniels worked out deals with the Orioles for Mike Gonzalez and Koji Uehara, and when it seemed like Heath Bell was headed to Texas, it turned out the Rangers’ bid was awarded the prized Mike Adams...
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs have show the strongest interest in free agent Kerry Wood, Major League sources close to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports say. (Morosi is following up on ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, who first reported the Phillies interest in Wood).
Wood, on the other hand, lives in Chicago and would like to stay with the club that he spent most of his...
Brad Hawpe could be close to signing a minor league contract with one of three clubs that have shown interest in the 32-year-old, reports MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. Hawpe underwent Tommy John surgery last summer and says he is healthy and ready to return to the field.
Hawpe signed a one-year, $2MM deal with the Padres just over a year ago but struggled badly in 2011, hitting...
Hot Stove and Hall of Fame Monday is shaping up to be a busy day filled with rumors. According to MLB Network Radio and reported by The Brewers Bar, father of Prince Fielder, Cecil Fielder said after being told by the radio host that they need Prince in Washington DC, “ I think that’s what’s gonna happen, man… personally, I think that’s going to happen.” The two have...
So I’m a little surprised tonight. While browsing through my twitter feed I saw an interesting tweet from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. This tweet talked about Ryan Ludwick and how “popular” he currently is, apparently there at least four clubs who have offered him a deal. My thought was really? Ryan Ludwick?
@JonHeymanCBS: Heard ryan ludwick has at least 4 job offers. Popular...
Everyone expects Kerry Wood to be the last Chicago Cubs player to be introduced Friday during opening ceremonies of the annual Cubs Convention, just as he was last January after returning from a two-year absence.
Kerry Wood had made it clear he doesn't want to pitch for another team besides the Cubs, but apparently his agents are listening to other offers.
The Cubs and free agent reliever Kerry Wood are making progress on a one-year, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe tweets. No deal is done between the Cubs and the SFX client.
The veteran could find himself in the Phillies bullpen in 2012.
When Jimmy Rollins inked his contract extension last month, it signaled the end of the shopping season for Ruben Amaro and the Phillies front office. Coupled with the Jonathan Papelbon deal that kicked off the start of free agency, the Phillies have more or less addressed the most pressing issues for the team as they...
