Rich Couthino of CBS New York is today’s besy thing I’ve read and as usual a voice of reason. We live in an age of instant messaging, Twitter, Facebook, and blogs. We are inundated with rumors about players, trades, free agency signings and personnel movement. I understand all that because the sports media is a competitive playground. But when you have a week where two New York baseball stars — Ike Davis and Robinson Cano need to defend themselves needlessly, I say enough is enough. Where is the accountability? Throwing unconfirmed information out into the twitter world is so damaging to individuals and is needless because an unsubstantiated story can be perceived as true to some.  You never can eradicate that because some bozo will bring it up when a player is slumping or under-performing. To me, it is the worst form of cowardice that there is and puts the player in a terrible situation. If he denies the rumor, people will question it. If he ignores the rumor, people will question ...

Addressing the Ike Davis trade rumors

It was obvious at the end of the 2011 season that the Mets needed to make trades because the talent on the roster did not fit. Sandy Alderson made only one notable trade last offseason, but it did not address the logjam or bring in needed C or OF help. Now Alderson finally seems ready to do what he should have done last year and the reaction from the fan base is … panic? I don’t...

Cano failed PED test just rumors

Yankees All Star second baseman, Robinson Cano, found himself at the wrong-end of some nasty rumors today.  Dan Tordjman, a TV Reporter in Charlotte, NC, first reported on Twitter that Cano failed a Performance Enhancing Drug test and would face a suspension from MLB as early as Friday. When asked about the rumors, Cano quickly shot down the allegations:       Cano has never...

Robinson Cano PED Rumors Further Prove Difficulties of Relying on 'Twitter Journalism'

Throughout most of Thursday, Twitter was abuzz with the rumor that Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano had tested positive for some form of performance-enhancing drugs, and would thus be subject to a 50-game suspension per Major League Baseball's policy. The problem is that the origin of the rumor, a Tweet by sports reporter Dan Tordjman of Eyewitness News in Charlotte, NC,...

The Power of Social Media

Raise your hand if you were surprised by the Robinson Cano PED rumors…  I certainly wasn’t; and there is no name in Major League Baseball that would surprise me if linked to steroids at this point.  Sure, there are some that would disappoint me more than others—Cano’s name being one of them.  But it would be disingenuous for me to tell you that I didn’t buy-into the...

Dan Tordjman Says he 'Heard' Robinson Cano Tested Positive for PEDs

Charlotte TV reporter Dan Tordjman tweets: Can't confirm this but I'm hearing that Robinson #Cano tested positive for PEDs. Announcement from #MLB coming shortly. #Yankees— Dan Tordjman... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

Cano denies rumor that he'll be suspended

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano claimed on Thursday that an Internet rumor suggesting he was about to be suspended for 50 games was false, the New York Daily News reported. "Not at all," Cano told the Dailey News, regarding a Twitter message that Cano was going to be suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy. "There's no test or anything...

The Reality Is The Mets Don’t Have Much To Trade

GM Sandy Alderson said the Mets were more likely to build via the trade route than by making a big splash in the free-agent market. Amidst the Ike Davis flap, one must wonder what pieces the Mets have to trade. When you read between the lines from what Alderson has said, everybody is fair game outside of Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler. There might be more arms down below the Mets would...

Amazin’ Hypotheticals: A 3-Team Trade Between Mets/Rangers/D-Backs

Earlier today I was reading a post on MetsBlog about possible trade rumors that we could hear this offseason. In the comments section I noticed a trade idea that Dan Wexler proposed. The trade involved the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The deal would send Justin Upton to Texas and Elvis Andrus to Arizona. Obviously this deal would be broadened to included at least one...

(Audio) Note: Mike Francesa hates Twitter, will Spread Cano Rumor Himself, OK?

Mike Francesa hates Twitter so he'll help spread the Robinson Cano rumor himself, OK? Why not click the Google +1 & the retweet buttons? **Follow us on Twitter. Subscribe, or Return to... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

How are the Mets NOT in Last Place?

As of September 20, the Mets sit in 4th place by one game and six perentage points. Our elimination number is two and Barney Stinson is closer to smoking his next cigarette. The only thing as equally Amazin’ as our 4-23 home record post-All Star break, including 15 straight home games where we scored three runs or less, is the fact that we still sit in fourth place. Are the Miami...
