The Washington Nationals (35-36) will get another crack at the Colorado Rockies (37-36) in a four-game home series after just winning a series over them last week in Colorado. This series will beginning a sequence of 17 games of which only three will be played away from Washington. The Nationals will certainly welcome this homecoming, as they have spent more time on the road than they have at home so far this season, and their offensive numbers prove their preference for Nationals Park. The Nationals’ slash line at home is .257/.311/.400 with 25 home runs in 31 games. However, their away slash line is an unfortunate .212/.275/.355 in 40 games, though they have hit 39 home runs in opposing ballparks. Their away batting average and on-base percentage are both the worst away stats among MLB teams, and their slugging percentage is the third worst. The Rockies, who call one of the most offense-friendly parks their home, have taken advantage of home field advantage through this season, but have an impressive away slash line that shows their offense can be successful anywhere. At home they are hitting .286/.345/.470 with 51 home runs in 40 games, and on the road they are hitting .256/.318/418 with 41 home runs in 33 games. The Nats won the series against the Rockies the last time, but with a less impressive offensive showing than they would have like. Hopefully, coming home immediately following Ian Desmond’s grand slam on Wednesday night will give them some offensive momentum that will stick.
