The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 8-5 on a rainy night at Camden Yards.   In the beginning of spring training, once Andy Pettitte announced he was coming back, everyone was saying the Yankees have seven starters for five positions. Well, the old saying is you can never have enough pitchers. The Yankees are finding that out when New York Yankee starter Ivan Nova would be removed from the game in the sixth with a right foot contusion and sprained ankle. Earlier in the game Ivan took ball off his right ankle on a line drive by Nick Markakis. Nova had trouble commanding his fastball and breaking pitch most of the night and never seemed to be comfortable on the mound, whether that was related to the injuries is just speculation. Baltimore jumped on Nova early in the first with a leadoff double by Xavier Avery who scored on a single by J.J. Hardy. Adam Jones would then double home Hardy making the score 2-0. In the top of fourth New York would finally solve Orioles starter Jason Hammel tying the game on a Nick Swisher double driving in Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano. Curtis Granderson homered in the top of the fifth giving the Yankees the, 3-2 lead. After the Yankees gave Nova the lead he gave it right back in the bottom of the fifth allowing a single, triple and home run staking the Orioles to a 5-3 advantage. The Bombers would tie it up again in the top of sixth, after loading the bases with no outs Raul Ibanez would reach on a fielding error by first baseman Chris Davis allowing two runs to score. Mark Teixeira would give New York the, 7-5 lead on a two run homer in the seventh. New York tacked on one run in the top of ninth making the final score, 8-5. After the injury to Nova the Yankees used five relievers Clay Rapada, David Phelps (his first win), Boone Logan, Corey Wade and Rafael Soriano who recorded his second save of the season. Game Notes The heart of the order came through once again with Rodriguez getting three hits, Cano two hits and Teixeira going 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Derek Jeter for the second game in a row hit into two double plays. Raul Ibanez left the game after getting hit on the elbow in the top of the ninth.
