Granted, Cleveland rightfielder Nick Swisher did go 2-for-5 in the Indians 4-2 loss to the Tigers on Monday night, but that was secondary to the two gaffes—one embarrassing, one boneheaded—Swish pulled off late in the game. The troubles started for Swisher in the bottom of the eighth, when, on a slow rolling foul ball down the third base line, he inexplicably turned around and decided not to follow the path of the ball, because if he had, he would have seen the ball spin back into fair territory. Tigers catcher Brayan Pena scooped up the ball and tagged the incredulous Swisher out, leaving the popular Indians player with a lot of egg on his ruggedly handsome face. Observe Swish’s momentary brain fart (via Bob’s Blitz)… Fast forward to the bottom of the tenth, where Swisher has made it to 2nd base following a base hit and fielder’s choice. Down by a pair, Michael Brantley singles to shallow right, allowing Swish to round third and possibly head home to make it a one run game, except this happened (via MockSession)… Mike Avilés struck out swinging to end a game Nick Swisher would just as soon forget he ever played in.
