Wilson Betemit hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and the Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 Friday night, snapping a three-game skid. Darren O'Day (1-0) worked one inning of relief for the win and James Johnson closed it out for his third save as the Orioles opened a 10-game road trip, their longest of the season, by winning for just the sixth time in their past 35 games in Toronto - a streak that dates to 2008. Baltimore improved to 4-4 in its past eight games at Rogers Centre. The teams combined for seven home runs, all solo shots. Robert Andino, Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold connected for the Orioles, while Edwin Encarnacion, Yunel Escobar, Kelly Johnson and Colby Rasmus went deep for the Blue Jays, who doubled their season home run total in one game.

Blue Jay Fan Throws Potato at Orioles’ Endy Chavez

You read it right. In the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday with the Jays down two runs and Endy Chavez seeing his first action of the game as a defensive replacement, a Toronto fan tossed a potato at the left fielder, causing a brief stoppage in play. Must be a Canadian thing. Chavez jogged the vegetable into third base umpire Jim Wolf who couldn’t help but to laugh. No word...

Orioles first base coach Wayne Kirby plays with bubble gum containers during rain delay (Video)

Baltimore Orioles first base coach Wayne Kirby was caught on camera playing with bubble gum containers in the dugout during a rain delay before Wednesday night's game at Camden Yards against the New York Yankees. Your browser does not support iframes. Kirby took two containers of Dubble Bubble gum, which still had gum in them, and held them up to his ears like an elephant...

Adam Jones, Jason Heyward to wear special cleats on Jackie Robinson Day

Jackie Robinson Day will be celebrated throughout the majors on Sunday, and two young African-American outfielders have a special tribute planned. Adam Jones of the Orioles and Jason Heyward of the Braves plan to wear the cleats pictured above to honor the man who broke MLB’s color barrier. Heyward tweeted that the cleats are the Nike Griffey Jr. Swingman model spikes. He also...

Home Run Derby up North, O's Win; Reynolds

Ah, there’s nothing like a good 'ol slugfest. After being swept by the Yankees this week, the Orioles turned it on last night at the plate and beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-5, to start their three game series. There were seven home runs in the game on Friday night, but Baltimore’s offense turned it on late and the bullpen closed it out. The Jays have owned the Orioles over...

Blue Jays closer Santos unavailable Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays closer Sergio Santos will be unavailable for Saturday's game. Santos has been away from the team to be with his wife for the birth of their child. He is expected to be activated for Sunday's game. Santos is off to a rough start this season. He has already blown two of three save opportunities.

Losing Has Wiped the Smile Off Robert Andino's Face

Despite starting out hot, sweeping the Minnesota Twins, the Baltimore Orioles followed that series up with getting swept at home by the New York Yankees. Much like 2011 where the O's started 6-1, things are sure to return back to normal and the team will settle into last place soon enough, something the players, like (noted Red Sox killer) Robert Andino seems all too aware of...

Blue Jays grounds crew enters field too early (Video)

The grounds crew at the Rogers Centre in Toronto got caught in a bit of a mixup during Wednesday's Blue Jays game as they came out onto the field too early and had to turn back around until the inning was over. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Boston Red Sox, with two outs and a 1-1 count on Blue Jays outfielder...

The Jays Are on the Docket

This weekend, the Orioles start a long, ten-game road trip, and their first stop is in Toronto, Canada, as they face the Blue Jays. It's a three-game set up north, and with the Orioles now 3-3, plus mired in a three-game skid, they hope to get things back in order. The Jays are 4-2 and are atop the American League East along with the Tampa Bay Rays. A small group of experts...

Pecking Order

Note the moment: The Baltimore Orioles lead the AL East. How often can you say that? The Sox remain in the cellar, but only two games separate all the teams. Which means this moment will most likely be short-lived. But never say never, I guess.

One Week in the Books

Catch your breath, look around, take in the scenery, what do you see? Looking at the big league club, I'm mostly pleased. The starting pitching has been almost uniformly excellent, the the bullpen has turned in a lot of good work, two blown saves notwithstanding, and the staff overall has a 2.57 ERA.The hitters are not yet where they need to be but I have a theory about that...

Encouraged in April

The Orioles are off to a solid 4-3 start. At the beginning of the year if you told me that the Orioles would have that record, I would take it and be happy. however, getting swept by the Yankees in heartbreaking fashion after sweeping the Twins definitely stung. The Orioles needed that win against Toronto in Toronto last night for a couple reasons. They needed to halt an early three...
