The San Diego Padres have three of the hottest hitters in the major leagues -- third baseman Chase Headley and outfielders Will Venable and Cameron Maybin. Headley was 4-for-5 Sunday at Colorado with his 23rd homer and a career-high six RBI in the Padres' 11-10 loss. The six RBI were two shy of the Padres' single-game record and the most by a Padre since Adrian Gonzalez drove in six runs on May 19, 2010 at Dodger Stadium. Since Aug. 1, Headley is hitting .328 with 11 homers and 37 RBI. He led the major leagues with 10 homers and 31 RBI in August. "Right now, Headley is one of the more dangerous players in the game with runners in scoring position," said Padres batting coach Phil Plantier. "Sustained damage like he is doing is no fluke. There are a lot of different ways he can get the job done, and that game is showing up every day. When he's hot, he has the capability of being among the best hitters in the game.
