Found August 26, 2013 on Friarhood:
As the season winds down, it seems that the Padres front office has slowly started to move into action as another young face will be making their Major League Debut with the Padres this season. The sixth rookie to make such a debut, actually. With the recent designation of starting pitcher Edinson Volquez and now speculation of Carlos Quentin potentially hitting the DL, the Padres have promoted outfielder Reymond Fuentes to the big league club. Fuentes’ agent broke the news on Twitter earlier this morning. Fuentes, a 22-year old 1st round draft pick by the Boston Red Sox back in 2009, has been tearing it up the minors this season with both Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson. For The Missions this season, Fuentes sported a .316 batting average with 6 homeruns and 35 RBI. Fuentes was promoted to The Tucson Padres in early August and has since been carrying a .418 batting average with 8 RBI. Fuentes, one of three Padres representatives at this summer’s All-Stars Futures Game, was...

Haikuarrhea: Week 21 in Padres Baseball

In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday (sorry – I’m late) to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task. The Padres won a series against the Cubs in laughable...

From the Archives: A Padres Jersey Redesign Chat

This post was originally published November 15th, 2011, shortly following the Padres announcement of their most recent jersey redesign. It’s reproduced here, unedited, made relevant after the discussion surrounding new Padres President/CEO Mike Dee’s proclamation that the team would not be incorporating the color brown into their look and ESPN/Paul Lukas ranking the Padres jerseys...

The Padres finally cut ties with Edinson Volquez and did so less than 24 hours after I posted this drawing I did of him in the dugout after he gave up 6 runs in 2/3 of an inning, allowing the first 8 Cubs batters to reach base safely. This is sad because we always enjoyed the #EVHAU (Edinson Volquez Hat Angle Update) each time he stunk it up every five days for us.

D-backs open homestand with series against Padres

The Diamondbacks will see old friend Ian Kennedy in the middle game of a three-game series against the Padres that begins Monday, the opener of a nine-game homestand that for the D-backs has a must-make-a-move feel to it. Kennedy, who won 21 games for the D-backs in 2011, is 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA in four starts since joining the Padres in a deal for Joe Thatcher, Matt Stites and a...

Whille You Were Drinking: Game 131 (SD vs. AZ)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres lost game 1 of the series in Arizona by a score of 6-1 bringing their record to 59-72, 18 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The final score doesn’t look that good but the game was not without intrigue: Reymond Fuentes made...

While You Were (Day) Drinking: Game 130 (SD vs CHC)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a Sunday afternoon in the pub. Especially when the game goes 15 innings and you left Petco Park after the 10th inning with the game still tied at zero. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were (day) drinking. Or (designated) driving home. Long game was long. The Padres managed to beat the Cubs despite the...

Five Goog Things: Sit Down, Chicago Edition

I have a question for all of you, the loyal congregation. “Were you not entertained?” Wow what a week end by our Padres. They pretty much turned in every kind of game possible from the monumental comeback to the pitcher’s duel and finally the bizarre. But as the dust settled, they were victorious over the Cubs, taking two of three to win the series and finish their longest...

Daily Friar 8.25.13

About the only good thing that the Cubs have going for them right now is some core young guys that should make them better in the future. The same could be said about the Padres as well. The Padres ran into one of those guys last night in the form of Jeff Samardzija. He was able to limit the Padres only to two runs through eight innings. While they did try to mount another comeback...

The Case for Reymond Fuentes

When the San Diego Padres traded Adrian Gonzalez to the Boston Red Sox in December of 2010, Padres fans were in  an uproar. Once again the organization had traded away top talent because they weren’t willing to pay top dollar to a player. The players received in return? 1B Anthony Rizzo, OF Eric Patterson, RHP Casey Kelly and OF Reymond Fuentes. Rizzo and Kelly were the names...

Padres-Diamondbacks Preview

The San Diego Padres' bullpen didn't have a very restful weekend. The Arizona Diamondbacks' weary relief corps can certainly relate. Following a 15-inning victory on Sunday afternoon, the Padres head to Phoenix looking to further derail the hopes of the fading and potentially drained Diamondbacks. The Padres (59-71) put their bullpen to work early on Friday after starter...
