Ruben Amaro Jr., Phillies General Manager, said in March that he was hopeful that Ryan Howard, the hulking 1st baseman recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon would be back with the Phillies sometime in May. As the calendar prepares to flip to June, Amaro revised his timeframe. When CSN’s Jim Salisbury asked Amaro if Ryan Howard would return in June, Amaro said that he doubted it. The new timetable? July. Hopefully.

Roy Halladay was diagnosed with a grade 1/grade 2 latissimus dorsi muscle strain. The diagnosis was made by Phillies’ team physician Michael Ciccotti. Not for any other reason than it makes good sense, Halladay sought a second opinion, and met with David Altchek, a New York shoulder expert. Halladay will speak about the injury after Ciccotti and Altchek confer.

Carlos Ruiz is batting .371 so far this season with 8 HRs and 31 RBI.

Carlos Ruiz sat out Wednesday’s game against the Mets. It was the third straight game Ruiz has missed with a sore hamstring. Ruiz did pinch hit in the game, and it was a huge turning point. Pinch hitting for the still winless Cliff Lee, Chooch followed a double by Brian Schneider with a game-tying, two-run home run. Ruiz is now batting .371 with 8 HRs and 31 RBIs. There continues to be chatter about the catcher being an All Star this year, and he even seems to entering the MVP talk around the League.

Jimmy Rollins is hitting a not too impressive .239 on the season. After inking a 3-year extension in the offseason and with the absences of Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, many hoped Rollins would step up for the Phillies. While that hasn’t clearly been the case yet this year, Rollins has hit safely in the last 4 games and is 7 for his last 19 (.368) with 2 doubles, a homer and 3 RBIs. With all of the glaring holes in the Phillies locker room and lineup, it would be a huge boost to the team if Rollins could get it going.
