As our own Corey Seidman outlined earlier today, facing the Astros in a late-season series has presented more than a few disappointments over the last decade. From the puzzling to the downright agonizing, the Phillies have found many ways to allow the ‘stros to beat them in recent history. Those bad memories undoubtedly caused a bit of trepidation as the Phils entered this crucial series in Houston. Winning the first game would be paramount to calming nerves. Instead, the Phils would compound the tension, falling to Houston 6-4, blowing a late lead, and squandering an opportunity to gain some ground in the standings.
Cloyd On Short Rest
- The Phillies were in a pinch with their starting pitching tonight. With a day-night doubleheader against the Marlins on Sunday, Manuel and Dubee were forced to start rookie Tyler Cloyd on three days rest. For three innings, Cloyd pitche...

Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia Phillies Shortstop, is batting .306 with 4 HR and 9 RBI in the past two weeks. Not coincidentally, the once dead Phillies are back in the thick of the playoff race.Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia Phillies
A few weeks ago Jimmy Rollins was public enemy #1. Rollins has always been a lightning rod for controversy and this season has been no exception. After signing...
The fortunes of the Philadelphia Phillies have shifted for them and Cliff Lee to name one. Who would you pick to highlight their sudden emergence into a race for another October opportunity?

The Phillies winning streak came to an end and the Cardinals moved to 4 games ahead of the Phillies. The Brewers also moved a half game ahead of the Phillies even though they did not play.

No, absolutely not!

With a 35-21 record since the All-Star break, the Phillies have finally gotten over the .500 mark at 72-71. With 19 games left to play, they are a mere three games behind the Cardinals for the elusive second wild-card berth in the National League.

Barely a week removed from the Brandon McCarthy line drive
incident, another pitcher, Houston Astros right-hander Mickey Storey, was hit
in the face by a comebacker off the bat of Chicago Cubs outfielder Dave

The Houston Astros appear to have survived the scariest moment of a bad season when Mickey Storey was hit in the face with a comebacker and dropped to his knees. The injury brought back visions of Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy, who suffered a skull fracture when he was hit with a liner last week. Storey was more fortunate in absorbing the ball from Dave Sappelt of the Cubs...
Last night's wacky 9-7 win must have exhausted the Phillies, as well the Marlins. On a travel day, this evening's game got underway at 4:05, so the two teams had to battle some nasty shadows. Unfortunately for the Fish, they also had to battle Cliff Lee.
Let's skip ahead to the sixth inning with the score still at 0-0. Josh Johnson had not given up a hit through...

An improbable run by the Philadelphia Phillies has pulled them within three games of the second NL wild card after being on pace to miss the playoffs just a few months ago.
Helped by a favorable schedule, the Phillies will face a third straight division cellar dweller as they open a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
After looking like it was out of...
