Final: Phillies 1, Nationals 5.

WP: Edwin Jackson (10-11, 4.03 ERA) LP: Cliff Lee (6-9, 3.16 ERA)

Well, that's it for the 2012 season for the Fightin' Phils.  A 3-1 defeat today put the team at the even, .500 mark for the season (81 wins, 81 losses).

The only run this afternoon produced by the Phillies came via a Darin Ruf sacrifice fly RBI in the top of the fourth inning.  In just 32 at-bats this season (12 games) for Ruf, he is batting .344 with three home runs and 10 RBIs.

Cliff Lee lasted six innings and suffered the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out a total of seven batters.  His overall win-loss record finalizes at (6-9) for the season, with his ERA set at (3.16). Lee has 207 strikeouts in total for 2012 (211.0 innings pitched).  Having thrown three additional games in 2011, Lee strike out 238 in 232.2 innings.

RHP Tyson Brummett made his major-league debut for the Phillies in the bottom of the 8th inning, replacing Jonathan Papelbon who allowed a two-run home run to Michael Morse.  Despite allowing two consecutive hits, he struck out both batters afterwards to end the inning.

The offseason begins.  Many questions will have to be answered in the next upcoming months, such as how the bullpen can improve, and whether they will re-sign players such as Juan Pierre, Ty Wigginton, etc.  When do pitchers and catchers report?

Attendance: 37,075.
