Found September 28, 2013 on Redlegs Review:
PLAYERS: Ken Rosenthal
TEAMS: Cincinnati Reds
The Reds can't catch a break lately. Aside from losing the first two games of the weekend series to the Pirates, and subsequently fumbling the opportunity to host Tuesday's Wild Card game at Great American Ball Park, Brandon Phillips was forced to leave Saturday's game with an apparent injury to his left shin. The play occurred during Phillips' at-bat in the bottom of the fifth inning when he fouled a pitch from Charlie Morton off his left leg. Phillips was noticeably shaken up on the play as he walked gingerly around the outside of the batter's box to try and shake the pain. Phillips wound up staying in the game and delivering a single into right field before being lifted for a pinch runner. Cameras were able to zoom in on his injury and reveal a huge welt raised from his shin. Simply put, the initial outlook doesn't look too good for Phillips. #Reds’ @DatDudeBP tells me X-rays on leg negative, but can’t walk on it right now. Says he will do everything...

Joey Votto 'really happy' about breaking record previously held by Pete Rose

Joey Votto made history on Friday. With two hits, Votto set a new Reds single season record by reaching base 312 times by a combination of walks, hits, and hit-by-pitch. At the time of this writing, he had reached base three more times on Saturday, increasing his overall mark to 315. The previous record was set by Pete Rose in 1969. Votto credits his ability to play...

Ryan Ludwick explains controversial remarks about fans with heartfelt response

Ryan Ludwick drew the ire of many Reds fans on Wednesday when he expressed his discontent with the lack of intensity and energy in the stadium during the series against the New York Mets. Now, the 35-year-old has issued a series of comments addressing the matter, which he hopes will help clear the air between him and the fans. In an interview with legendary sports writer Hal...

Johnny Cueto to take the ball in Pittsburgh

It appears the fate of Cincinnati's 2013 season will fall upon the arm of Johnny Cueto on Tuesday. Following Saturday's loss to the Pirates, manager Dusty Baker announced that Cueto, and not Mat Latos, will get the ball for the Wild Card game at PNC Park. Baker cited the fact that Latos is currently battling arm soreness as part of the reason for the change.  ...

Reds P Latos out for wild card game

Right-hander Mat Latos has a bone chip in his elbow and will be unavailable for the Cincinnati Reds' wild card playoff game Tuesday in Pittsburgh. The Reds are hopeful that with a couple of days of treatment, Latos' elbow could improve enough that he'll be available if Cincinnati wins the one-game playoff and advances to the division series. Manager Dusty Baker had...

Brandon Phillips leaves game after fouling ball off shin

Cincinnati Reds' second baseman Brandon Phillips left Saturday afternoon's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning after fouling a ball off his left shin. Ten things you need to know for Pirates series

It should go without saying, but this weekend could very well mark the biggest regular season series in Great American Ball Park history as the Reds play host to the Pirates. Both teams have already punched their proverbial ticket to the postseason, however, the right to host next Tuesday's Wild Card game is still very much up for grabs. It should make for an electric atmosphere...

Reds fall to Pirates 4-1, trail to host wild card

One of Homer Bailey's greatest moments came a year ago at PNC Park. He doesn't want to have to go back there again this season. The Cincinnati Reds will have to win their last two games of the season to avoid that return trip. Marlon Byrd had three hits and Pedro Alvarez hit a two-run homer high off the batter's eye on Friday night, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates over...

The Biggest Regular Season Reds Series of my Lifetime

It’s only the biggest three game regular season series in my lifetime. That’s all that’s about to kick off this weekend. The Cincinnati Reds host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three game series that ends the 2013 season. The winner of the series will host the one-game Wildcard playoff on Tuesday. The truth is, I’m still not over what happened to end last season. It has been...

Is Billy Hamilton a Wise September Call Up? Every now and then, a player comes along that really captures the attention of fantasy baseball players.  Often, that’s because he has put up some gaudy minor league statistics. Game 160: Pirates 4 Reds 1

If I'm being perfectly honest with all of you, the main thing that I wanted to see the Pirates do this weekend was play better baseball than the Reds for most of the weekend. As I've been saying for a few days now, I'd love for that playoff game to be at PNC Park on Tuesday, but I also realize that the outcome of that game is much more important than where the game is...
