The @pirates acquire Gaby Sanchez & Kyle Kaminska from the @marlins for Gorkys Hernandez & 2013 Competitive Balance Lottery pick.
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) July 31, 2012
News of this deal came out about an hour prior to the trade deadline as the Pirates acquired 28-year old first baseman Gaby Sanchez and 23-year old righty reliever Kyle Kaminska from the Marlins in exchange for Gorkys Hernandez and a competitive balance pick (Tentatively, 33rd overall pick next year).
Sanchez is obviously the headliner of the deal as he entered 2012 with decent numbers hitting 19 homers in each of his past two seasons, sporting a career line of .269/.346/.440. But this season, he got off to a very rocky start and was optioned to Triple-A after starting the year hitting .202/.250/.306 over 196 plate appearances. It seems like Sanchez is going to take over the right-handed first base role in a Jones/Sanchez platoon against tough lefties. If he gets back to his career norm, this is a pr...

Pirates Take Calculated Risk In Acquiring Sanchez
The Pittsburgh Pirates have built up a pretty good farm system under Neal Huntington’s watch. Our own Marc Hulet ranked them ninth before the season, and over at ESPN, Keith Law ranked them eighth. They have also simulteanously been upgrading their Major League core, and have morphed into a contender this season. To do this at the same time, you have to get a little bit lucky,...

Pirates trade Gorkys Hernandez to Marlins for Gaby Sanchez
With the trade deadline rapidly approaching this afternoon, the Pirates sent Gorkys Hernandez and their competitive balance draft pick to the Marlins for Gaby Sanchez and right-handed reliever Kyle Kaminista. Sanchez struggled quite a bit in 50 games with the Marlins this year (.202/.250/.306) and that resulted in a demotion to Triple-A, but prior to this year he posted back-to...

Welcome to Pittsburgh Gaby Sanchez and Chad Qualls
Last year's trade deadline all of a sudden looks tame. Neal Huntington went nuts over the past day acquiring pieces to potentially improve the Pittsburgh Pirates. The key word in that statement in potentially. It is no secret what the front office was trying to do. They weren't renting players like they did last year for an ultimately futile run. They made...
Pirates get Gaby Sanchez from Miami
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired former All-Star first baseman Gaby Sanchez from the Miami Marlins in a deal shortly before the trade deadline.
The Pirates also got minor league pitcher Kyle Kaminska on Tuesday for minor league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and one of baseball's new extra draft picks given to financially weaker teams.

Marlins send 1B Sanchez to Pirates
The Miami Marlins traded first baseman Gaby Sanchez to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, right-handed reliever Kyle Kaminska and a competitive balance pick, multiple sources reported Tuesday. Sanchez has struggled with a .202 batting average this season and was sent down to the minors July 5 to try to work through those struggles. He hit 19 homers in 2010...

Marlins trade Gaby Sanchez to the Pirates for Gorkys Hernandez
According to Jim Bowden of ESPNxm, the Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired first baseman Gaby Sanchez in exchange of outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.
Sanchez, 28, struggled this year in Miami hitting .202/.250/.306 with 3 HR's and a 48 OPS+ in 196 plate appearances for the Marlins this season. Hernandez, 24, is hitting .083/.154/.237 with a -37 OPS+ in 26 plate appearances with the...
Pirates get 1B Gaby Sanchez from Marlins for Gorkys
It looks like Neal Huntington pulled off one last move before the trade deadline. He shipped Gorkys Hernandez and a draft pick to Miami for 1B Gaby Sanchez and reliever Kyle Kaminska. Just like the Travis Snider move from earlier, this was a decent move but it’s not going to be the difference between the Pirates finishing over .500 and making the playoffs. But with the prices...

Mets trade dead line update… less then hour to go…
The Mets might have been able to move Tim Byrdak to the Redsox who were looking for a lefty. No dice since it looks like Breslow is heading to Fenway. Gaby Sanchez who has had a rough year with some time in the minors for the marlins has been sent to the Pirates.
Cubs and Tigers are working on a deal. No not Dempster, Soriano might be going to the Tigers while the Cubs still working on
