In the offseason, Pirates starting pitcher A.J. Burnett will decide whether or not he is going to retire. He will contemplate retiring this offseason, but if he decides to play one more season, he will definitely draw interest from his current team. Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington says that they will do "everything in our power" to re-sign starting pitcher A.J. Burnett this offseason if he does not retire, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Burnett said that he was 50-50 about retiring this offseason, according to Karen Price of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. If he does not retire this offseason, Burnett says that he would like to remain with the Pirates. On the season, Burnett is 9-11 with a 3.39 ERA and a 203/66 strikeout-to-walk ratio. If Burnett decides he will play next season, it seems like he will be in a Pirates uniform. Follow Robert on Twitter @RobertMurrayMLB Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Pirates the latest on the bandwagon phenomenon

The Pittsburgh Pirates clinched at least a shot to get deep into the post season and the Wild Card Play-in Game. They are two behind the Cardinals for the division lead and with six games on the schedule, still have a slight chance to skip the play-in altogether. This is a great story of course after the Pirates have gone since 1992 since last making it to the post season. Such a...

Pittsburgh Pirates: Did A.J. Burnett make his last start at PNC Park?

A.J. Burnett (Photo Courtesy of Jonathan Daniel/ Getty Images) For the Pittsburgh Pirates, acquiring A.J.Burnett nineteen months ago from the New York Yankees was a blessing. On Saturday night in front of a sold out PNC Park, Burnett shined in what may have been his last regular season home game in a Pirates uniform. There is no doubt that Burnett has been a key part of the Pirates...

Pirates A.J. Burnett is still mulling over retirement

A.J. Burnett said during spring training that he was considering retiring after the 2013 season. Six months later he’s still thinking about the possibility. According to Karen Price of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Burnett said yesterday that retirement has been in the back of his mind all season and that he’s “50-50″ on whether to return in 2014. The 36-year-old indicated...

Rumors: If A.J. Burnett does not retire, Pirates want him back

A.J. Burnett had indicated earlier in the season that he was contemplating retirement after the year is over.  However, with the Pittsburgh Pirates' successful season, it's possible Burnett would want to come back for more.  And the Pirates want him back. GM Huntington: #Pirates will do "everything in our power" to re-sign @wudeydo34 for 2014, IF Burnett decides...

The Pittsburgh Pirates are going to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years, clinching at least a National League wild card after they beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 and the Washington Nationals lost to St. Louis Monday

Burnett leads Pirates past Reds 4-2

A.J. Burnett scattered four hits over seven strong innings to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Saturday night. Burnett (9-11) struck out a season-high 12 as the Pirates moved a game in front of Cincinnati for the top spot in the NL wild-card race. Jason Grilli worked the ninth for his 31st save, his first since going to the disabled list with a strained...

Game 155: Pirates 4 Reds 2

Let's all exhale just a little bit.  After last night's debacle, the Pirates got a little bit of everything that they needed tonight. AJ Burnett came out tonight with a slider that should've been required by law to have a turn signal affixed to it. He spotted the Reds a 2-0 lead, then completely shut them down from innings 3-7. He racked up 12 strikeouts in total...

Pirates playoff bound after win

The Pittsburgh Pirates are headed to the playoffs for the first time in 21 years, clinching at least a National League wild card Monday night when they beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 and the Washington Nationals lost to St. Louis. It will be Pittsburgh's first trip to the postseason since Barry Bonds, Jim Leyland and Co. won three straight NL East titles from 1990-92. Bonds then...

Game 155 Preview: Pirates vs. Reds

Reds (88-66) at Pirates (88-66) 7:05 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT The Bucs will try and pick themselves up from a tough defeat yet again and bounce back with a win to move back ahead of the Reds. Eight games remain on the year, and it’s a toss up as to who will have home field in the wild card game between these two clubs (assuming neither overtakes the Cards...

Game 156 Preview: Pirates vs. Reds

Reds (88-67) at Pirates (89-66) 1:35 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT It’s the final regular season home game of the year for the Pirates, and that’s usually a sad day. Today, though, it’s just one more huge game, and there’s a very good chance that the Bucs will return to PNC for a postseason home game, although that’s no guarantee (I put the odds at...

Pirates earn at least a wild card spot with 2-1 win over Cubs

Starling Marte delivered the knockout blow Monday night but it also served as the ultimate bailout. After clinging to a one-run lead all night thanks to exceptional pitching by Charlie Morton the Pirates' bullpen allowed the Chicago Cubs to tie it. Marte who entered the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning hit a tie-breaking home run to give the Pirates a 2...

Game 156: Reds 11 Pirates 3

I understand letting Jeff Locke start today. That sounds crazy in hindsight, but I really do. Locke has looked marginally better since returning from his demotion, and he turned in a gem against the Cubs last weekend. Brandon Cumpton, Kris Johnson, and Stolmy Pimentel have all been used pretty sparingly since joining the Pirates after Indianapolis's season ended. Using a rusty...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds – Game 156

I hope last night’s performance put your mind at ease a bit.  I certainly understand the nerves, this has been such a long time coming, but it’s such a longshot at this point that the Pirates miss the playoffs.  This has just been a crazy time.  Something we aren’t used to as baseball fans. Anyway,…
