Things were pretty ugly with this guy on the bench.
Things didn’t go so well for the Reds (28-22) as they looked
to take the series from Pittsburgh (25-25) at PNC Park on Wednesday evening as
A.J. Burnett stifled the Redlegs and held on to a 2-1 victory. The break down
after the break.
Cincy led things early as Zack Cozart picked up a ground-rule
double to lead off the ball game and later scored on Brandon Phillips’ sac fly.
That turned out to be the last Reds hit until the 7th as Burnett
(4-2) was outstanding. Johnny Cueto (5-3) was nearly as good, but after
retiring the first two batters of the sixth, a walk, single and two-run double
from Matt Hague gave the Buccos all the offense they would need.
- Cueto has always been outstanding against Pittsburgh and
tonight was no different. He picked up the tough luck loss, but managed seven
strong innings of five-hit ball, walked four and struck out five. His ERA
stands at 2....
BEST OF MAXIM
The Bucs got yet another outstanding effort from the pitching staff, allowing Matt Hague‘s big hit to be the difference in an excellent 2-1 win.
The matchup of A.J. Burnett and Johnny Cueto turned out as advertised. The Reds struck for a quick run against Burnett in the first thanks to a leadoff double, a Pedro Alvarez error, and a sac-fly, but Burnett shut them down after that...
The Reds lost the game and the series to the Pirates last night, 2-1. Apparently Johnny Cueto should have known better than to allow 2 whole runs.
The Reds are off today and traveling to Houston. Tomorrow they’ll take on the 22-28 Astros.
The Reds’ series record for the month of May was 5-2-2. They won series against the Pirates, Brewers, Braves...
AJ Burnett – He’s been pitching well this entire year – except for that one start when he gave up 12 runs in 2.2 – and even though the control has been a bit of an issue, he’s still worth a one day speculative add if your looking for some K’s. He’s even somehow mustered a winning record in Pittsburgh, which is nothing short of amazing.
Jeanmar Gomez – When he’s...
Final: Pirates 2, Reds 1
WP: A.J. Burnett (4-2, 3.60 ERA)

A.J. Burnett gave up a lead off double to Zack Cozart, who eventually scored due to an Pedro Alvarez error. Burnett then retired the next 17 batters to keep the Pirates in the game. He gave up just that one unearned run over seven innings while giving up just...

Burnett (4-2) escaped early trouble then cruised, giving up one unearned run while striking out three and walking two to win his third straight start. The right-hander retired 17 straight at one point, with only...
The game was looking really good until it suddenly wasn’t yesterday, when the Reds lost 1-2 to the Pirates.
Johnny Cueto started for the Reds. In 7 innings of work he allowed 2 run (earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks. Not the best he’s ever been, but hardly a losing effort. Sean Marshall got the first out in the eighth and Logan Ondursek got the other two. Pitching the ninth wasn’t...
The Reds brought the series even with an 8-1 win over the Pirates last night. The game was delayed by weather, but they didn’t do the start-and-stop thing, allowing Homer Bailey to get his second career complete game.
The rubber match happens tonight at 7:05 p.m. Johnny Cueto (5-2, 2.53 ERA) takes on A.J. Burnett (3-2, 4.19 ERA). The light-hitting Pirates could...
The Reds had an off-day yesterday to recover from their first lost series in the last six.
Tonight the Reds visit the Houston Astros. Just two days after facing an “A.J.” in A.J. Burnett for the Pirates, tonight they take on a “J.A.” in J.A. Happ, who’s going for the ‘Stros. Mike Leake will take the mound for the good guys.
Joey Votto: Rock of Consistency...
A.J. Burnett allowed just two hits over seven innings, Matt Hague delivered a two-run double and the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Reds 2-1 on Wednesday night. Burnett (4-2) outdueled Johnny Cueto (5-3) on a night Cincinnati managed just four hits, one of them a pinch-hit single by Votto in the ninth. Joel Hanrahan worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the ninth for his 13th save.
RUBBER MATCH!!!!! That was definitely not the outing Charlie Morton needed. He is rapidly sealing his fate in my opinion. He is running out of ”potential” despite being someone I’ve had zero problems rooting for. First Pitch: 7:05 PM EST Where To Watch: Root Sports, MLB.TV, FS-O Johnny Cueto, RHP (26) Remember when [...]
