The tensions of a poor start after so much preseason hype have surfaced in the Los Angeles Angels' clubhouse.

After Wednesday's loss, outfielder Torii Hunter made some comments to reporters that seemed critical of manager Mike Scioscia and the coaching staff. However, Scioscia said Thursday that the remarks "didn't come to anything" and he didn't believe Hunter had any issues "with any strategy or anything."

Meanwhile, the team's players held a meeting before the game against the Rays, with some of the veterans apparently speaking up. It proved all for naught when the Angels went out and blew a ninth-inning lead, losing 4-3 to the Rays. The Angels were swept in Tampa Bay, and they have now lost a season-high four consecutive games, falling to 6-13, matching the worst 19-game start in franchise history.

"One of the things going through our heads is that all the opposing teams during spring training were saying, 'Hey, you guys are stacked. You guys are good,'" infielder/outfielder Mark Trumbo said. "We might be scuffling now, but it's the same cast of characters.

"I really do believe we're capable of so much more than we're showing, and we're close to breaking out."

Scioscia disagreed when asked if his team might be playing tight because of the pressure of the expectations.

"If there's anything with our experience with this group of guys points to, it's guys may be trying to get out of an 0-for-20 with a 510-foot home run, and they keep trying to do that," Scioscia said. "Or with a guy on third base and less than two outs, a guy expanding their zone because they want to do it so bad. I don't consider that tight. I just think that's trying to do too much, and we're constantly talking about trying to keep it simple in this game.

"There are all kinds of things that come into play when a team is not where they should be that I just don't think they fall into the realm of being 'tight.' I think it's just 'non-execution.' You don't see guys that are tight and nervous who are in the big leagues for long, and our guys are not tight, they're not nervous."
