Friday 5: Corky Miller, Part Two

There are many things you can talk about with a guy who has spent almost 20 years playing professional baseball.  But when you serve as The Hall's Chief of Stache and you get the opportunity to talk with a man of Corky Miller's caliber, there should really only be one topic.  Miller is currently a catcher for the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati...

Reds' Cueto overpowers Pirates

Neil Walker eyed Johnny Cueto's fastball and turned on it. Before the Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman could get the bat out of his hands, the ball was nestled into the glove of Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto. In one motion, Walker flipped his bat in faux disgust, then turned back toward the dugout. ''You hit a ball hard and sometimes you see that it's the...

The mean streets of the NLC

Looking forward to seeing this guy tomorrow. I miss him from his Indianapolis Indians days. The Cincinnati Reds are 33-21. Their .611 winning percentage would be enough to lead the NLE and the NLW, but here in the NLC, they’re a sad third place. They can’t all three keep this up, can they? Surely someone’s got to crack. At the time of this writing, after the Pirates won, but...

Minor League Schedule: Cole Leads First Place Indianapolis Into Columbus

First Pitch: Who Should the Pirates Consider For an Extension?

Rob Biertempfel of the Trib reported tonight that Scott Boras would be open to a long-term deal involving Pedro Alvarez and the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the article, Biertempfel quoted Frank Coonelly and Scott Boras, who both said they’d be open to the discussions. That doesn’t mean much, since discussions are far from a deal. The more important thing is what is said during the...

They will make the game up today as part of a doubleheader. Two new teams on the schedule...

Reds One-Hit Pirates

The Reds won at Pittsburgh to tie them with the Pirates for second place in the division, only two games behind St. Louis. Johnny Cueto was dominant, allowing only one hit and a walk in eight shutout innings. Jay Bruce got scoring started with a home run before the lineup piled on in a 6-0 win.

Surviving and Thriving

In recent months there have been a couple of possible threats to Mike Leake’s spot in the Cincinnati rotation. After his last four starts he’s not only solidified his spot, but he’s now becoming one of the more reliable pitchers in a very reliable rotation.
