Yasiel Puig hit a grand slam last night and has now hit three home runs and one double in four major league games.  Zack Greinke outdueled Tim Hudson in that same game, both pitchers lasting seven innings and Tim Hudson allowing the lone run. Jim Johnson picked up his 20th save of the season for the Orioles, which ranks 3rd in MLB. Jacoby Ellsbury returned to the lineup and avoided a DL stint. He hit two doubles and David Ortiz hit the winning home run in the ninth inning. Rays 2 v Tigers 5: Max Scherzer improves to 8-0 by tossing seven innings, allowing one run while striking out nine. Jose Valverde pitched a clean ninth to pick up hit seventh save. Victor Martinez hit his fourth home run of the season. Evan Longoria hit a double and Ben Zobrist stole a base for the Rays (Detroit won the series 2-1).Orioles 3 v Astros 1: Miguel Gonzalez picked up his third win of the season, pitching six innings and allowing only one run. Jim Johnson pitched a perfect ninth for his 20thsave. Bud Norris suffered the loss for the Astros, pitching seven innings and giving up three runs, while striking out seven. Adam Jones and JJ Hardy hit doubles for the Orioles. Jason Castro hit a double for the Astros (Baltimore won the series 2-1).Rangers 3 v Red Sox 6: Derek Holland took the no decision, pitching six innings and giving up two runs. Jon Lester gave up three runs in six innings. Andrew Bailey earned his second win. David Ortiz hit the go ahead home run in the ninth inning for the Red Sox.  Jonny Gomes, Dustin Pedroia, and Jacoby Ellsbury x2 added doubles. Jeff Baker and Adrian Beltre hit home runs for the Rangers (Boston won the series 2-1).Diamondbacks 8 v Cardinals 12: Shelby Miller started shaky, allowing two runs in the first inning. He managed to settle down and pitch six innings while only allowing those two runs. Edward Mujica pitched two-thirds of an inning for his 18thsave. Matt Holliday, Matt Carpenter, Matt Adams, and Daniel Descalso all hit home runs for the Cardinals. Gerardo Parra and Wil Nieves hit doubles for the Diamondbacks (The series tied 2-2).Athletics 5 v White Sox 4: Yoenes Cespedes hit two home runs and Grant Balfour picked up his 14thsave for the Athletics. Josh Reddick and Adam Rosales also added home runs. Alejandro De Aza, Tyler Flowers, and Alex Rios all hit doubles for the White Sox and Alexei Ramirez and Alejandro De Aza stole a base (Oakland leads the series 1-0).Twins 3 v Royals 7: Wade Davis pitched five innings for the Royals and allowed zero earned runs. Mike Pelfrey pitched 6.1 innings for the Twins, giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk. Eric Hosmer, Alex Gordon, and Billy Butler hit doubles and Lorenzo Cain hit a home run for the Royals. Ryan Doumit hit his eighth home run of the season for the Twins (Kansas City won the series 2-1).Phillies 5 v Brewers 1: Tyler Cloyd pitched 6.2 innings and gave up zero runs on four hits and five walks. Wily Peralta continued to struggles, allowing five runs in five innings. Delmon Young hit a home run for the Phillies. Ryan Braun stole his fourth base for the Brewers (Philadelphia leads the series 1-0).Padres 6 v Rockies 5: Andrew Cashner pitched seven innings for the Padres, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. Jhoulys Chacin surrendered five runs in 5.1 innings. Everth Cabrera, Jedd Gyorko, and Kyle Blanks hit doubles and Will Venable rapped a triple for the Padres. Nolan Arenado x2, Michael Cuddyer, Jordan Pachecho, Wilin Rosario, and DJ LeMahieu hit doubles for the Rockies. Wilin Roasrio also added a home run (San Diego leads the series 1-0).Yankees 6 v Mariners 1: Phil Hughes pitched seven innings and allowed zero runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Aaron Harang didn’t make it out of the third inning, allowing six runs in 2.1 innings. Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira hit home runs for the Yankees.
