ARLINGTON, Texas - Brace yourselves, Rangers fans: The Silver Boot trophy is in doubt. The Astros hammered the Rangers, 12-7, on Monday to take a 4-3 lead in the season series between Texas' major league teams. The Rangers have won the last seven Silver Boots, including last year's 17-2 runaway in the season series. This year is much different. The Astros produced 17 hits against the injury-riddled Rangers, 12 of them off Miles Mikolas in his second major league start. Meanwhile, any hopes of a Rangers comeback were thwarted by seven consecutive strikeouts over the sixth, seventh and eight innings. The seven-straight K's tied a club record. Mikolas lasted just 3 1/3 innings, the worst of which was a five-run second inning. The Astros pelted Mikolas with a series of soft singles until No. 9 hitter Marwin Gonzales unleashed a three-run triple. It wasn't a case of Mikolas getting rattled. He gave up no walks, and of the 88 pitches Mikolas threw, 63 were strikes. "W...

The best Prince Fielder 'Body Issue' photoshops

By now, you have probably seen Prince Fielder on the cover of ESPN the Magazine’s 2014 Body issue.  He’s naked and it’s flat out gross.  Somebody was paid real money to come up with the idea to put a naked Prince Fielder on the cover of a magazine.  But, I digress… Have you seen these Photoshop jobs of Fielder doing other things (still naked)?  Aside from the whole nakedness...

Prince Fielder ‘Body Issue’ Photoshops are here because the Internet (photos)

(via r/helpful) It’s hardly surprising given that he landed on the cover — not to mention his unique, unconventional body type — that Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder is the unquestioned superstar to emerge from the 2014 edition of ESPN The Magazine’s annual “Body Issue.” The Internet — as it is wont to do (writing […] The post Prince Fielder ‘Body Issue’...

NERD Game Scores: Miles Mikolas Recon Opportunity

Devised originally in response to a challenge issued by viscount of the internet Rob Neyer, and expanded at the request of nobody, NERD scores represent an attempt to summarize in one number (and on a scale of 0-10) the likely aesthetic appeal or watchability, for the learned fan, of a player or team or game. […]

Rangers should learn lesson about preparing for the worst

The Texas Rangers made national news Tuesday when their injured first baseman Prince Fielder appeared naked in ESPN The Magazine's Body Issue. Later that evening, the Astros undressed the Rangers in Arlington. The unimaginable has become all too real. The lowly Houston Astros and their miniscule payroll (and TV audience) are in the process of overtaking the Rangers in the A.L...

Prince Fielder lands on cover of ESPN The Mag's 'Body Issue'

Arguably the most surprising athlete to be included in this year’s ESPN the Magazine ‘Body Issue’ is Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder. The hefty first baseman is one of the bigger players in baseball but, according to Prince, he wanted to be in the Body Issue to let people know you don’t have to be a fitness model to be an athlete: A lot of people probably think I’m...

Rangers starter Yu Darvish hit by glancing blow in the head

Yes, the injury thing really is becoming surreal for the Texas Rangers. On Tuesday, RHP Yu Darvish was hit in the head by a line drive while throwing in the outfield. Darvish was doing some flat ground work when Leonys Martin hit a ball in batting practice that tipped off Derek Holland’s glove and glanced off Darvish’s head. After kneeling for a moment, Darvish returned to...

Prince Fielder Body Issue Photoshops are even better than the cover photo

The real reason ESPN asked Prince Fielder to pose for their Body Issue and put him on the cover is because they knew the results would launch a thousand memes. There is no doubt that was the motivation. And just as you would have hoped, the internet came through for us. A Photoshop battle broke […]

Ex-Brewer Prince Fielder Comfortable in own Skin

Former Brewers slugger Prince Fielder adorns the cover of ESPN The Magazine’s “Body” Issue, which comes around on July 11.  You may have already heard that, surprise!  He’s partially nude.  Well, pretty much totally nude except for certain private parts.  You know what?  Prince is cool with his body, and he’s not afraid to show it.  More power to him. When I first...

Mike Modano mocks Prince Fielder’s weight

Prince Fielder ditched his uniform for ESPN’s Body Issue. As you might have expected, he received a lot of feedback and not all of it was positive. One source of negativity was Mike Modano. "@BleacherNation Prince Fielder is in ESPN's body issue this year. pic.twitter.com/K1KW1arozM” no wonder he has a bad back. — Mike Modano (@9modano) July 8, 2014 In case Modano...
