The Rangers first road trip after the All-Star Break resulted in a 4-4 split that ended with a series loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. And yet somehow Texas is still five games up in the division.  I’m not thrilled, but I’ll take it. Tonight’s game just wasn’t pretty at all. Matt Harrison abused my expressions of love from last week (I might need to pull them back).  He gave up four runs on eight hits in just six innings.  It started with a 1st inning triple to the much-celebrated Mike Trout, and the parade of Angels runs just continued from there. Bad Alexi Ogando made another appearance too.  He gave up two runs while recording just one out.  He has not been the same since coming of the disabled list.  It makes me wonder if he’s not fully healed. Neither of them was as bad as Josh Hamilton though.   After his hot May, Hamilton looks completely lost at the plate.  He’s struck out in about a third of his ABs since then.  Tonight, he was 0 for 5 with three strikeouts and fo...

A Fan went on the field for an autograph during the Angels-Rangers game

During Sunday night's game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers in Angel Stadium a fan came onto the field in the top of the eight inning to have a chat with Angels Left Fielder Mike Trout, reports Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times.   According to DiGiovanna the fan asked for an autograph. “He said it was his 18th  birthday and asked me for an autograph,...

Time has come for Angels to replace Santana

ANAHEIM, Calif. The baseball clock is ticking slowly toward the trade deadline on July 31, and it's looking more and more like the Angels may have to jump into the market. It's not their preference, but with their pitching rotation in a state of uncertainty and right-hander Ervin Santana continuing to look horribly inconsistent, do they really have a choice? They can stand...

Request for Trout autograph leads to arrest

Sunday nights game between the Angels and Texas Rangers in Angel Stadium was delayed briefly in the top of the eighth inning when a fan came onto the field and stopped for a brief chat with Angels left fielder Mike Trout. He said it was his 18th birthday and asked me for an autograph, said Trout, the rookie phenom who had two hits and two walks and scored a run in the Angels 7-4...

Feldman, offense come up big in win

Today was such a strange day in baseball. Ichiro became a Yankee … and instantly played against his former team. That would be really weird if I was a Mariners fan. Tom Grieve announced that the Rangers broadcasters would no longer be acknowledging those who brought treats to them on air. Cookie talk has been moved to the FSSW web site.  There was much rejoicing on Twitter. Colby...

Rangers Minor League Roundup – 7/20

Double-A Frisco third baseman Mike Olt hit his 25th home run of the season on Friday while Rookie Rangers third baseman Joey Gallo launched his 11th in 80 official at-bats. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Rangers 9, Red Sox 1

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Scott Feldman was sharp and the Texas Rangers' offense came to life in Monday night's 9-1 victory over the slumping Boston Red Sox. American League West-leading Texas (57-38) is neck-and-neck with the New York Yankees for the best record in baseball, while Boston (48-49) is under .500 for the first time since June 16. The three-game series continues...

Long road back

SUGAR LAND Its easy to overlook incremental progress when stardom has already been achieved, when the wunderkind label fit snuggly before falling off somewhere along the decent into oblivion. The truth that appears to have been lost on most everyone else hasnt eluded Scott Kazmir. There is no shortcut back to the mountaintop, no magic elixir for one to consume that helps recapture...

BP Unfiltered: Ask From Your Heart: Tales From A Big League Press Availability by Sam Miller

You might know LA Times columnist T.J. Simers from such memorable pieces as T.J. Simers Goes After Marcus Thames For No Apparent Reason and, this weekend, T.J. Simers Humanizes Vernon Wells. Simers was at Angel Stadium today, and he wanted to ask Mike Scioscia something. And this is how it went.  Simers: Is this a big game? Scioscia: In your heart, deep down in your...

Game Recap 7/23/12: In the books - Angels 6 Royals 3

To be fair did anyone really expect anything other than a victory from tonight's game? I mean, if the Angels are going to be playing to gain some ground on Texas these are the kind of games they need to win. A struggling pitcher on the mound, especially when given the fact that he's a lefty which the Angels have absolutely smashed on this season, really didn't give way...

Angels 6, Royals 3

Pinch-hitter Kendrys Morales delivered a rare three-run single in the eighth inning to help the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Monday night. Alberto Callaspo, who spent two-plus seasons with the Royals, started the tiebreaking rally with a two-out single against reliever Greg Holland (4-3). Maicer Izturis bounced a double over the head of first baseman Eric...

Game Recap -- Things are gonna get Tight -- Angels 2 Rangers 9

Oh man was Ervin Santana bad today. We are talking catastrophically terrible. This reoccuring bout of crappiness has put the Angels is a severly compromised position as it relates to the next 10 days or so. All of sudden the starting rotation, already an issue, has a gaping hole where Ervin used to be. Scioscia has already said he is skipping his next start with the off day and a...

Nolan Ryan critical of Hamilton's hitting approach

Even though Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is considered by some to be the best player in baseball, he is not immune to criticism, even from officials on his own team. Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, who is the Rangers' president of baseball operations, was critical of Hamilton's batting approach in a recent radio interview. Perhaps that's because Hamilton...
