The Texas Rangers re-acquired right-hander Jake Brigham from the Chicago Cubs for righty Barret Loux and a player to be named later.
Brigham was sent to the Cubs before the trade deadline in a deal for catcher Geovany Soto. But Brigham only pitched in two games after the trade and then went on the disabled list with a right elbow strain.
Sending Loux and the PTBNL to Chicago allows the Rangers to rework the trade because of the injury. Loux, who pitched collegiately at Texas A&M, went 14-1 with a 3.47 ERA for Frisco last season.
The Rangers added Brigham to their 40-man roster. Texas also purchased the contracts of infielder Leury Garcia from Frisco and lefty Joe Ortiz from Round Rock, upping their 40-man roster to 38.
Garcia hit .292 for Frisco last season with 31 steals in 100 games. Ortiz pitched in 51 games in relief between Frisco and Round Rock last year, with a combined ERA of 2.15.
