Garin Cecchini will be joining a pair of his fellow Red Sox prospects at Citi Field on Monday. Cecchini, a 22-year-old third baseman, was announced Thursday as a late selection to the 2013 Futures Game, replacing injured Rangers prospect Joey Gallo. Cecchini and Boston pitching prospect Anthony Ranaudo will suit up for Team USA in the annual showcase of the game’s top young talent while Red Sox top prospect Xander Boegarts will play for the World squad. The organization’s No. 8 prospect, according to MLB.com, Cecchini has been a force to be reckoned with this season, hitting .364 with six home runs, 41 RBIs and an astounding 1.036 OPS across two levels. His stats have actually improved since being promoted to Double-A Portland in late June, and he enters Thursday having recorded six multiple-hit efforts in his last 10 games. Ranaudo has been similarly effective for the Sea Dogs, leading the Eastern League in WHIP (1.04) and ranking third in ERA (2.67) while posting an 8-2 record in 16 starts this season. Boegarts, who will make his second Futures Game appearance, is batting .298 with 12 homers and 52 RBIs between Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket and may very well find his way onto the big-league roster before season’s end. The Futures Game is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Monday, with the All-Star Game being played the following day. Photo via Facebook/Salem Red Sox
