8 a.m. ET: Felix Doubront didn’t have his best stuff Saturday, but the Red Sox’ bullpen bailed him out. Now, the Red Sox enter Sunday’s series finale with a chance to salvage a split of their four-game series with the Royals.

In a long overdue move, the Red Sox called up Will Middlebrooks from AAA Pawtucket and immediately inserted him into the lineup on Saturday in Kansas City. The presumed reason for the move was a "Fenway Flu injury" to Brandon Snyder—who was placed on the disabled list. Look for a similar move up of phenom Xander Bogaerts before the rosters expand on September 1st.
The Boston Red Sox are reportedly in the market for a right-handed power bat, leading some to speculate they could be interested in corner infielder Mark Reynolds, who was recently designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians. However, the Red Sox don't view Reynolds as a fit considering his poor defense and high strikeout rate, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston...
David Ross has been out of action since June 14, suffering the effects of a concussion. Prior to suffering the injury, the 36-year-old was basically splitting time with Jarrod Saltalamacchia behind the plate, so the Red Sox will likely be happy to have Ross back in the fold.
That being said, head injuries are a serious business, and Boston has the luxury of taking Ross’ rehab slowly...

The third baseman has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to join the Boston Red Sox in Kansas City. Middlebrooks is replacing Brandon Snyder, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. More on Middlebrooks later.
Right now, the Red Sox (70-48) are in need of a team ‘W.’ Boston has lost the first two...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The last memory of second baseman Jamey Carroll for most Royals fans was of him mopping up in the eighth inning of the Twins' 13-0 loss last week to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
Carroll was effective, retiring the Royals in order.
"With this bullpen and this staff, I don't think I'll be doing that again," Carroll said Monday afternoon...

It was a tough week in Red Sox Nation and baseball in general. MLB dropped the hammer on the cheaters, the Sox had a royal meltdown in KC, Stephen Drew went to walk-off city, Mike Napoli went missing, Will Middlebrooks got the call, and Big Papi kept bashing and did some babysitting.
For the week the Red Sox went 3-4. The Sox dropped Monday’s game...

The Kansas City Royals plugged their hole at second base by acquiring 39-year-old Jamey Carroll from the Twins. The Royals agreed to send cash or a player to be named later to Minnesota. The post-deadline deal fills the hole left by Miguel Tejada’s injury—which landed the surprisingly effective Tejada on the 15-day DL.
Carroll has struggled this season after...
