The $2 billion-plus winning bid for the Dodgers by the Magic Johnson-Guggenheim Partners group shattered all records for a pro sports team -- giving the group a few hours to boast about having the most valuable franchise.
But the amount paid for the Los Angeles team will also raise the value of the New York Yankees -- to about $3.3 billion, including its stake in the YES Network.
The figure is based on a sales price of five times revenue -- the rate commanded by the Dodgers, a source said. That topped the 3.5 times revenue price tag the Cubs got at a recent sale.
The Dodgers' price factors in the anticipated value of a yet-to-be-formed regional sports television network, which is why it is fair to include the YES stake in the Yankees' value.
The Yankees, believed to be the league's most valuable franchise, generate roughly $439 million in revenue after revenue sharing, according to Forbes. At a five-times multiple, the team alone would be worth $2.2 billion.
The YES stake is worth roughly $1.1 billion.

The Dodgers have made a few roster moves this week as the season is set to open on Thursday in San Diego.CutsJosh Bard and Cory Sullivan were released by the Dodgers. Bard was never going to make the team ahead of starter A.J. Ellis and million-dollar man Matt Treanor. There was a tweet during the contract he signed was guaranteed, but that was obviously not the case. Bard was 2...
Los Angeles Dodgers lefthander Ted Lilly is headed to the 15-day disabled list as a result of neck stiffness, manager Don Mattingly told ESPN Los Angeles.
The move will be made retroactive to Monday, meaning Lilly will be eligible to return on April 10.
Lilly is tentatively scheduled to pitch against the NL West rival San Diego Padres on April 14.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Chris Capuano pitched six innings in his final preparation for his new spot as the Dodgers' No. 3 starter and caused a stir by throwing behind Ryan Braun in a Los Angeles split squad's 9-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The phrase "tough times" doesn't even begin to describe what the Camelback High School baseball program has endured in recent years. One win in three seasons, recurring issues with academic ineligibility, regular losses by as many as 20 runs and sometimes worse -- the Spartans have seen it all.
Through all of it, though, coach Todd Goertzen has seen progress and plenty...
Clayton Kershaw What more can I say about Clayton Kershaw other than that he has perhaps the brightest future of any player in baseball – and has already had more success than most - and all at just 24 years of age? Entering 2011, Kershaw was coming off of two 4+ WAR seasons (4.1, 4.7),
Ted Lilly‘s injury isn’t thought to be serious, but he’s enough behind schedule that he’ll be given extra time to recover by starting the season on the disabled list. Ted Lilly threw off a mound on Friday for the first time in nine days, and reported improvement in his stiff neck. But the left-hander is

Last season the Los Angeles Dodgers dominated headlines for everything other than baseball.
The team was still at the mercy of now ex-owner Frank McCourt, whose divorce was a literal soap opera and the team took the fall too.
Still, the team put up an 82-79 record thanks to a great second-half of 2011, and finished a respectable third place in the NL West...
Magic Johnson's purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers made headlines, and fans got excited to see "Showtime" playing a part in trying to revitalize another team from L.A. The Dodger players are excited, too. One of their players is so excited, he made a rather bold proclamation about his ability to school the five-time NBA champion at his own game. Matt Kemp told reporters...
As the excitement from getting out from under Frank McCourt‘s reign dies down a bit, we’ll have to start analyzing exactly what the hell just happened, both good and bad. Well, in an effort to do exactly that, Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles talked to economists about the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers
One of the worst, without question. But for under four clams, I bit. It was a last second decision. He is the Dodgers' top pitching prospect, after all. And it's only my second signature of the young righty. Second of a handful, I hope.
