Catcher Yasmani Grandal has served his 50-game suspension for violating MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and has been activated by the San Diego Padres. Last season, his first as a Padre, Grandal hit .297  in 192 at bats to go along with 8 home runs and 36 RBI. Walking a solid 31 times as well, there is no doubting that Grandal has a solid bat and nice gap power. But will the lack of an enhancement drug affect his offensive output? Only time will tell. But considering that he catches, the wear and tear could take a toll faster than normal without it. Grandal was acquired along with Yonder Alonso, Edinson Volquez and Brad Boxberger for Mat Latos in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds back on December 17th, 2011. Padres C Grandal eligible to be reinstated Tuesday

Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal is eligible to be reinstated Tuesday from a 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test that called into question just how good his rookie numbers were. Beyond saying he made a ''mistake,'' Grandal has never told team officials why he took PEDs. Now they say Grandal will have to quiet any skepticism with his play. Grandal was...

Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal will be reinstated Tuesday from a 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test that called into question just how good his rookie numbers were. Beyond saying he made a ''mistake,'' Grandal has never told team officials why he took PEDs. Now they say Grandal will have to quiet any skepticism with his play. Grandal was part of...

Padres reinstate catcher Grandal

The San Diego Padres have reinstated catcher Yasmani Grandal from the restricted list after he missed the first 50 games of the season while serving a suspension for a positive testosterone test. The Padres made the move official on Tuesday before completing a two-game series in Seattle. The Padres optioned catcher John Baker to Triple-A Tucson and designated for assignment infielder...

San Diego Padres Catcher John Baker Optioned To Tucson

Catcher John Baker became victime number two on Tuesday in the San Diego Padres attempt to activate catcher Yasmani Grandal. Baker was optioned to San Diego’s Tripla-A Tucson club. Earlier in the day third baseman Edinson Rincon was designated for assignment to clear space for Grandal on the 40-man roster. Baker, who is 31, is batting .150 this season for the Padres and hasn...

The House Flight: Week of 5/20 to 5/26/2013

In case you weren’t paying attention… Sweeney, spit it out!! Quentin changed his stance, it’s narrow, it’ll take some time to adjust, did it for knees. Was that so hard? #PPLive — Derek Togerson (@DerekNBCSD) May 25, 2013 Always enjoy responsibly. Don’t read and drive. Inertia and Versatility: Yonder Alonso and Kyle Blanks Whatever shall become of Kyle Blanks? Haiku...

San Diego Padres Desigante 3B Edinson Rincon For Assignment

The San Diego Padres designated minor league third baseman Edinson Rincon for assignment. He will have to clear the waiver wire process as well as accept an assignment to remain in the Padres organization. In seven seasons in the San Diego Padres system, Rincon hit .285 but never did get past the Double-A level. Providing very little in power and hardly anything in the way of speed...

Haiku-arrhea: Week 8 in Padres Baseball

In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task. After dropping series to both the Cardinals at home (1-2) and the Diamondbacks...

Everth Cabrera: franchise shortstop, or beautiful baseball unicorn?

Ever since Everth Cabrera was acquired by the Padres in 2009, he’d represented little more to me than a low-risk acquisition at a position of scarcity. Where immense athletic talent coupled with stunted development was essentially given an opportunity to compete in an environment with almost zero competition. A Rule 5 pick catapulted from A-ball to the big leagues at age 23 is...

The Andrew Cashner Opportunity – Kantor’s Fantasy Corner

Andrew Cashner, San Diego Padres’ starting pitcher, enters his start Thursday with a 3.38 ERA. He plays for a mediocre club, but in an advantageous ball park. He is injury prone, but has a high ceiling. He has great stuff, but a thin track record. How should you approach this interesting fantasy case? Cashner is available in 59% of fantasy leagues so it’s likely you can snap...

San Diego Padres Andrew Cashner is Becoming A Premier Starter

In 2008 the Chicago Cubs selected Andrew Cashner in the first round of the first year player draft. At the time Cashner was a closer at Texas Christian University. However, the Cubs initally used him primarily as a starter where he realized a great deal of successful. Then in 2010, out of desperation, the Cubs moved him back into the pen. I believe this was a poor decision and set...

Padres 3, Mariners 2(10)

Eric Stults had a career-high 12 strikeouts and Will Venable drove in the winning run as the San Diego Padres rallied in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 on Wednesday night. Venable's third game-ending hit drove home Chris Denorfia from third to complete an improbable comeback after the offense struggled mightily through the first eight innings...

Padres 6, Mariners 1

Edinson Volquez pitched into the eighth inning and Jedd Gyorko and Alexi Amarista each homered, and the San Diego Padres beat the Seattle Mariners 6-2 on Tuesday. The teams split the brief two-game set in Seattle, but will be right back at it on Wednesday in San Diego for two more games as the ''natural rivals'' conclude their season series. Gyorko hit a two-run...
