The Indians will play their final series against the surprising Yankees team in Yankee Stadium the next three days. Cleveland is coming off a couple tough series (a four game split with the Reds and a loss to the Rays), especially the final game against Tampa which they lost 11-3. With the loss the Indians remain a half game back from Detroit, where they have been the past three days. The Yankees on the other hand, have been a complete surprise this year and were in first place in the AL East as recently as May 26th. They are currently in third after dropping two straight, but should be reinvigorated soon, by the return of a few of their super stars. Both Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis returned to the Yankees this past weekend and should be in the starting lineup against the Tribe. This should help bolster a lineup that doesn't really need any help, already sixth in the league in home runs. If there is one word to describe the Yankees lineup, however, it is old and there i...

Yankees Player of the Week: May 27-June 2

Sabathia threw a dominating 7.1 IP on Friday night to end the Yankees losing skid. In a week that found the Yankees struggle to click offensively, where the pitching staff kept the team in most of the games to give the  offense a chance, the Yankees player of the week for May 28-June 2 is CC Sabathia. After losing 5 straight games, including an abysmal 4 game series against the...

Jimenez has another encouraging start

CLEVELAND -- It might never be wise to breathe easy when it comes to a starting pitcher, but maybe, must maybe, Ubaldo Jimenez is reaching that point where the Indians know what to expect from him. After two years of struggles and chaos, Jimenez has shown he has not forgotten how to pitch, and that he can provide winning outings for the Indians. This is not based simply on Jimenezs...

Q&A: Mickey Callaway, Indians Pitching Coach

Mickey Callaway might be the MVP of the 2013 Cleveland Indians. The “P” in the acronym doesn’t stand for player — Callaway is the team’s pitching coach — but you get the point. The Indians came into the campaign with a pitching staff full of question marks. The majority of prognosticators panned the clubs’ chances of competing in the American League Central for that...

Notes from the Wigwam: Bullpen woes take toll

When a problem arises, it’s imperative to quickly find a solution. Unfortunately for the Cleveland Indians, there does not appear to be any definitive solution in sight to the Tribe’s bullpen woes. In particular, left-handed relief has been an immense problem for the Indians and also played a key role in why the Tribe scuffled and finished 3-4 this past week. Few things went...

The Yankees are turning to Hiroki Kuroda (6-3, 2.39 ERA) in the rubber match against Boston after being blown out 11-1 Saturday night. He left the game with a no decision when Mariano Rivera blew his first save of the year. Boston is turning to their ace...
