With the 2012 payroll pretty much already maxed out. That’s really good news for Brandon Crawford and his fans. Crawford will be the San Francisco Giants 2012 shortstop, and not have to worry about some over the hill veteran breathing down his neck and taking AB’s away from him.   For those of you that don’t know much about Crawford. You can read this Q&A that he did with SF Giants Rumors, so you can get to know a little more about your 2012 shortstop. “So I will be working as hard as I can to prove I should be the starter going into this upcoming season,” Crawford shared his insights with me. ~King of Cali (Steven) ———-——–—-——-——––———————-—————————————————- You can follow SF Giants Rumors Facebook page for more Giants updates! SF Giants Rumors: Brian Wilson The Human Taxi

The team sent me a couple pictures of San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson during his routine jog. This time it wasn’t so routine though. Wilson had a human backpack on. He’s jogging with an unidentified female cargo on his back.   At least we know he’s keeping himself in good shape during the offseason. Let’s just hope his throwing arm (elbow) is getting better...

Winter Meetings update — Day 4

It’s Day 4 of baseball’s annual Winter Meetings in Dallas and the Rule 5 Draft will take place today. Some of the Giants players that could be scooped up by other teams today include pitchers Justin Fitzgerald and Kelvin Marte; infielder Nick Noonan; outfielders Wendell Fairley and Juan Perez; and catchers Johnny Monell and Jackson Williams, all of whom were left...

1997: The Giants signed former Dodgers nemesis Orel Hershiser. The 39-year old right-hander, who will post an 11-10 record with a 4.41 ERA in 202 innings, will spend just one season with San Francisco before moving on to the Mets the following year. 1977: The A’s announce a deal which will send pitcher Vida Blue to Cincinnati for outfielder Dave Revering and $1.75 million in...

2008: Nick Peters becomes the 60th winner of the J.G. Taylor Spink award, named for its first recipient and given annually by the BBWAA “for meritorious contributions to baseball writing.” The San Francisco native covered the Giants for 47 years (1961-2007), a span in which he reported on more Giants games than anyone in franchise history. 1991: The Giants send outfielder Kevin...

Full Details Of Angel Pagan Trade Released

The San Francisco Giants' press release announcing the trade sending Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez east in exchange Angel Pagan disclosed that the Mets are on the hook for either another player to be named later, or cash. This is news to Mets fans who were mostly in agreement that this was an attractive trade by Sandy Alderson. While its a bit annoying that its taken several...

Posey's rehab progressing nicely in Georgia

Giants catcher Buster Posey is continuing his smooth recovery from extensive left leg injuries and appears poised to intensify his training, head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said Friday.

2011 Winter Meetings wrap-up

Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings are over. No more TV cameras trolling the lobby at the Anatole Hilton in Dallas. No more drunk reporters hanging out in the bar fantasizing about married life. No more fake scoops by insecure beat writers to one up each other. (OK, that last one probably isn’t true. They’ll still be doing that.) The San Francisco Giants didn’t sign Albert...

Giants sort out roles for Crawford, Belt, Burriss, Pill

DALLAS -- The Giants consider youthful shortstop Brandon Crawford and first baseman Brandon Belt integral pieces of their roster, which they all but set as they departed the winter meetings on Thursday.

Limited by payroll, Giants still improved

The Giants knew that they weren't going to acquire a "household name," as general manager Brian Sabean said before the Winter Meetings, but even with payroll nearing its limit, Sabean thinks the club has improved.

SF Giants roster seems close to its final form

The Giants increased their payroll 30 percent in two years, from just under $100 million to a projected $130 million for 2012. Even with the spike, it's no easy task cramming 25 players plus Aaron Rowand into the budget....
