Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez didn’t play well — that might be a slight understatement — in 2012, and it wasn’t just his wide receivers who took notice. Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith talked about Sanchez during an appearance on a North Carolina sports radio show on Thursday, discussing just how bad the Jets quarterback was. Smith was pretty candid in his thoughts about Sanchez, really forcing home the point that he didn’t like Sanchez as a player. He even went as far as to say that Sanchez “sucked,” and that as a receiver Smith wouldn’t let Sanchez throw him a sandwich bag. Steve Smith on Mark Sanchez's place in @WillBrinson's QB rankings: "He sucks. I wouldn't let him throw me a paper bag sandwich."— The Drive (@thedrivenc) May 15, 2013 Sanchez had the worst year of his career in 2012, completing just 54 percent of his passes in 2012 and threw 13 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Smith, on the other hand, had another terrific season at age 33, defying the test of time to catch 73 passes for almost 1,200 yards and four touchdowns. With Cam Newton firmly planted in Carolina as the starter, it doesn’t seem too likely that Smith will have to catch paper bags, or passes, from Sanchez anytime soon. If he ever gets cut, at least we know there’s one team he won’t be playing for. Have a question for Luke Hughes? Send it to him via Twitter at @LukeFHughes or send it here.
