Top pitching prospect Seth McClung was outstanding yesterday striking out 6 over 7 scoreless innings. We'll keep an eye on this kid as it seems like he has a bright future.
Jae Hoon Ha went 2-4 and Trey McNutt worked a scoreless inning out of the pen. Allen Webster (remember him?) struck out 8 of our guys in 6 IP.
Another. *******. Rainout.
Jorge Soler went 3-4 with all three hits being singles. Jeffry Antigua struck out 5 in 5.2 IP. The other week I was asking why a guy with his #'s was getting demoted and Twitter might have provided an answer. One of the guys from Cubs Den (who are way better at this minor league thing than the ****** this blog uses) tweeted that Antigua's velocity has decreased to the 84-87 mph range this season. Hayden Simpson probably gave the poor guy mono.
Gioskar Amaya continues to be my love crush by virtue of his being really really good at sports. Last night he went 3-4 with his 7th HR. The other day KG ment...

Diory Hernandez went 1-5. Who is Diory Hernandez? Exactly.
Jae Hoon Ha was 2-3 with a BB and has really been on a hot streak for the last few weeks. Ha also gunned down a runner at the plate. Junior Lake went 2-4 and is hitting .286. Trey McNutt pitched a clean inning out of the bullpen. I wonder if we will see him in September.
Anthony Giansanti slugged a two-run double off the CF Batter's Eye to cap a three-run 1st inning and Ryan McNeil and three relievers combined to throw a shutout, as the AZL Cubs whitewashed the AZL Diamondbacks 3-0 in Game #1, and then Giansanti hammered a lead-off walk-off HR off the base of the scoreboard in the bottom of the 7th that gave the Cubs a 1-0 victory in Game...
THAT'S USING YOUR HEAD
Ouch. That’s gotta hurt. Leaving a chunk of your scalp on the playing surface while trying to snag a souvenir ball? So bad on so many levels. Although the video does not provide the precise date and game during which this Chicago Cubs fan went all topsy-turvy, chunk-of-hair-losey, it’s reasonable to surmise that it occurred during the [...]
In our continuing Iowa series of "That guys still playing?" we introduce Horacio Ramirez (yes that one) who went 7 IP allowing 1 ER and striking out 1. Not to blow Horacio's Horn or anything but he's probably our best pitching prospect now.
Matt Szczur hit a triple. Nobody else did anything.

Christian Villanueva went 1-3 and PJ Francescon...
He grew up a Cubs fan just like his dad did. As a kid his dad would sit him down in front of the TV, turn on WGN and the two of them would spend a summer day with Harry Caray. It was a ritual as a kid, but then he got older and friends and girls and other things got in the way. He grew up and he didn't watch as much Cubs baseball with his dad as he used to. He didn't watch...
News broke this weekend about Starlin Castro signing an extension with the Cubs for seven years and $60 million, with an option for the eighth year. I was waiting for the details of the deal (specifically, yearly salaries) before posting about it, but then news came out that it would take a week or two for the contract to get finalized.
The AAV of Castro's extension...

Ahh… the Hendry Era. The Cubs were always winning, the best players were beloved by the media and treated with respect by the front office, player acquisitions were always based on sound analytical wisdom, and Order prevailed in its eternal conflict with Chaos. Wait, what’s wrong with these…?

Twins career: Matt Walbeck, now 42, played with Minnesota from 1994-96. During his time with the Twins, Walbeck, a catcher, played in 275 games, the most he played for any team during his 11-year major league career. He batted .230 with 103 RBI and eight home runs during those three seasons.
After breaking into the league in 1993 with the Chicago Cubs, Walbeck was traded to Minnesota...
The author attended Wednesday night’s game — or, at least, the first eight innings of it — between the Class A Midwest League affiliates of the Minnesota Twins (the Beloit Snappers) and Chicago Cubs (the Peoria Chiefs) in Beloit, Wisconsin. Below are some notes on same.
