Recap: Thursday's Box ScoresThursday saw MLB teams finishing their first series, with the only sweep coming from the Was-Mia series. Morse has started the season on a four HR tear, while some veteran SP have struggled. Without further adieu, Thursday's box scores:Angels 4 v Reds 5- Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton registered their first hits of the season, but the Angles failed to overcome three solo home runs swatted by Todd Frazier, Shin-Soo-Choo, and Chris Heisey. Aroldis Chapman picked up his first save, while Jay Bruce continued to struggle at the plate, 0-4 with two strikeouts.  (Reds won the Series 2-1)Cubs 3 v Pirates 2- Carlos Marmol almost blew another save, giving up two runs in the ninth. Kyuji Fujikawa may have relieved him, but he had already pitched a perfect 8th. Anthony Rizzo swiped his first bag of the season. For the Pirates, James McDonald had a solid outing, only giving up 1 ER, 2 H, and 2 BB in 7 IP.  But Nate Schierholtz swatted a HR off of Jared Hughes for the go ahead runs. (Cubs won the series 2-1)Padres 2 v Mets 1- Huston Street gets his first save of the season, but he gave up a HR to John Buck in the process. Eric Stults gave up 0 runs in 5 innings and the Padres bullpen carried them to the finish line.  Dillon Gee gave the Mets a chance to win, allowing only 1 R in 6.1 IP, but the Mets bats took a break after raking in Game 1 and 2. (Mets won the series 2-1)Tigers 2 v Twins 8- This game could have resulted in reverse. With men on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, skipper Ron Gardenhire made the decision to walk Miguel Cabrera to pitch to Prince Fielder.  Prince struck out and Victor Martinez flied out to second, stranding three batters. This game was 3-2 entering the 8th, seeming to set up a Glen Perkins save opportunity. But the Twins blew it open, Josh Willingham and Trevor Plouffe hit their first HRs of the season. (Minnesota won the series 2-1)Royals 3 v White Sox 1- Gavin Floyd looked better then he had in the Spring, allowing only 2 ER in 6 IP to go along with 5 Ks. Unfortunately for the White Sox, Jeremy Guthrie was better, allowing only 1 R and striking out 9 in 6 IP. Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon had doubles for the Royals, while Alex Rios had two hits for the White Sox. (Chicago won this series 2-1)Orioles 6 v Rays 3- Chris Davis continued his hot streak, slugging a HR and a double.  Adam Jones stole his first base, along with Nate McClouth. Unfortunately for the Os, the feel good story of Brian Roberts may have been short lived, having hurt his leg. Evan Longoria had two hits for the Rays. As an interesting fact, as posted by @RaysBaseball on Twitter, Roberto Hernandez was the first Rays pitcher to start for them, in 1207 games, that was a FA pickup. (Baltimore won the series 2-1) Mariners 2 v Athletics 8- Michael Morse is in the house! He homered for the third straight day and already has 4 HRs in 4 games. Unfortunately for the Marines, their rookie SP Brandon Maurer was not sharp, giving up 6 ER. Yoenis Cespedes hit his second HR of the year, Josh Reddick contributed a HR and a double, and Jed Lowrie added two doubles. For those in Holds leagues, or people that consider handcuffing their closers, Ryan Cook had 3 Ks while pitching a perfect 9th. (Seattle and Oakland split the series 2-2)Marlins 1 v Nationals 6- Jordan Zimmerman only allows one run, while the 2, 3, and 4 hitters help propel the Nats. Jason Werth, Bryce Harper, and Ryan Zimmerman combined for 6 RBI with RZimmerman hitting a double and Werth clubbing a 3-run homer in the 7th. But, the Marlins scored their first run!! Justin Ruggiano homered in the 2nd. (Washington swept the series 3-0)Red Sox 2 v Yankees 4- Andy Pettitte pitched a gem, throwing 8 innings and only giving up 1 ER. Mariano Rivera gave up one ER, but he notched his first save. Brett Gardner hit his first HR of the season. (Boston won the series 2-1) Indians 8 v Blue Jays 10- The Blue Jays record their first win of the season by slugging 5 HRs, JP Arencibia slugging two. Jose Bautista left the game with an ankle injury. For Cleveland, Carlos Santana hit a double and a HR and Jason Kipnis rapped out two doubles. Brett Myers and Mark Buehrle combined to give up 13 ER. (Cleveland won the series 2-1)Phillies 2 v Braves 0- Cliff Lee pitches a gem, striking out 8 while allowing only two hits and 0 Runs. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his first save. Kris Medlen only gave up 2 ER, but he did give up 6 hits and 4 BBs in only 5 IP. (Atlanta won the series 2-1)
