Found July 26, 2012 on Philliedelphia:
Of course we are happy about Cole Hamels signing.  It does appear that money could motivate the Phillies to move Hunter Pence as the Phillies look to stay below the luxury tax.  ESPN's Jose Cruz Jr. says definitively, "Hunter Pence's days as a Phillie are numbered", and that "it's a question about money for next year." Possible suitors appearing are the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cleveland Indians. Pittsburgh Pirates:The Pirates are  buyers and just bought Astros' pitcher Wandy Rodriguez.  Rumored to see Shane Victorino as a perfect fit, Pence could be a much-needed bat behind in the lineup behind Andrew McCutchen.  Ten days ago, the Pirates were scouting Pence. The Pirates recently called up centerfielder Starling Marte, one of their top prospects looking for that added boost.  If Marte came back in the deal, the Phillies could have their centerfielder for years to come.  It sounds like the Pirates won't trade him, h...

Report: Phillies in Talks to Send Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants

This one comes out of San Francisco.  Dennis O'Donnell of KPIX-TV, a CBS station in San Francisco, reports that the San Francisco Giants and the Phillies are in "serious talks" regarding a Hunter Pence trade. The report offers no idea of who the Giants would offer in return. The Giants have two top outfield prospects, Gary Brown and Francisco Peguero.  Brown both...

Trade Talk: What Value Does Hunter Pence Have?

Only eight more days until the July 31st trade deadline. Right now the Phillies are 14.0 GB in the National League East and 10.0 GB for the second wild card spot. With 66 games remaining in the regular season, the Phils' chances of making the playoffs are slim to none. With reports speculating that Ruben Amaro Jr. is looking for trade options for some of his players, it only...

If it's up to him, Pence will stay a Philly

It's usually what players say at this time of the season, but Hunter Pence says that he wants to stay in Philadelphia. For now though, Pence remains a potential piece of trade bait.

Hunter Pence: "I Hope a Trade Doesn’t Come Through"

Photo: Philliedelphia/Lindsey Crew In the midst of trade rumors about himself, Hunter Pence still has the heart for the Philly fans.  In an interview with 94 WIP's Michael Barkann and Ike Reese, Pence expressed his feelings about Philadelphia and its fans as well as making his preferance clear that he'd rather lose here than be traded. “I just heard [the report...

Good Game; Let's Talk Trade? The Phillies Are Reportedly "Eager" to Trade Hunter Pence

Buried in this morning's Ken Rosenthal report which pretty much bashed the Miami Marlins for their team construction and now demolition, was this quick blurb on Hunter Pence: The Phillies continue to signal to clubs that they are eager to move right fielder Hunter Pence, who could earn $13 million to $14 million next season in his final year of arbitration. Pence, 29,...

Want to Compete? Keep the Pitching, Trade Pence

Six years, $144 million. That’s $24 million per year for Cole Hamels, the Phillies’ third $20-plus million pitcher and their fourth player making an eight-figure salary. Conventional wisdom is that this move cripples the Phillies financially. They’re right up against the luxury tax this season and, with Hamels’ contract, have just under $140 million committed to nine players...

SF Giants Rumors: Chase Headley and Hunter Pence Make Sense, Minus Two Bullpen Arms Off The List

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says there is a strong probability that Padres third baseman Chase Headley will be dealt.   The San Francisco Giants are in the market for a third baseman and switch hitting, 28-year-old Headley would make perfect sense. It’s just not likely that the Padres would deal him within the division. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com says the Phillies are letting...

SF Giants Rumors: Hunter Pence Is On The Giants Radar, Broxton Back in the Bullpen Mix

Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports says (via Twitter) if the Phillies decide to make Hunter Pence available, the San Francisco Giants are expected to make a push. They want a right-handed hitting outfield bat.   Pence is only 29 years old, and has some very nice pop in his bat. He’s currently hitting .267 with 17 homers and 59 RBI. It sure would be a nice counter move to the Dodgers...

Rumor: Dodgers Looking to Acquire Pence and Victorino

Updating a previous report about the Los Angeles Dodgers pending moves, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com is reporting that the Dodgers are looking to add Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies. Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers have plans in place to acquire both players even if the club ends up signing Ryan Dempster or Matt Garza. It remains to be seen if...

Trade Talk: Flyin' Hawaiian's Landing Destinations?

Yesterday, we talked about how trading Hunter Pence could give the Philadelphia Phillies a chance for a bright future. Today, I will give a couple brief scenarios on what trades suitors the Phillies could have with center-fielder Shane Victorino. There are multiple teams that have inquired the Phillies about their center-fielder. Notable teams linked to Victorino are the Pirates...
