Found April 23, 2012 on i70baseball:
Roughly two weeks into the season, there are some things that have started to pique my interest about the 2012 St. Louis Cardinals.  My goal here is to write a blog post, not a book, for i70baseball, so I’m breaking this list into two lists, each consisting of a few things I’ve noticed.  This week, we’ll take a look at six items, next week I’ll round out the list and write about the others.  So, in no particular order…   Matheny’s miscues have been few ◄ Back Next ► Picture 1 of 7 If you’re reading this article, then you’ve probably read dozens of others on the topic of Matheny’s rookie season as manager of a baseball team at any level. So far, I’d give him high marks for the job he has done guiding this team to their current 9-4 record atop the National League Central. Pitching matchups haven’t existed at the level they have in the past (duh), but pitching changes haven’t shown any signs of becoming extinct anytime soon eith

Where would the Cardinals be without Lohse and Westbrook?

Where are all the fans who during the off-season wanted the St. Louis Cardinals to dump one or both of Kyle Lohse and Jake Westbrook, even if it meant eating $10 million or more of salary? Following is a look at what the two have done through April 22, as they have the lowest ERAs among the five starters. Sure, the season is early, but with Lance Lynn needed in the rotation for...

Early schedule could help St. Louis Cardinals bury rest of the NL Central

Less than three weeks into the 2012 regular season, the St. Louis Cardinals entered play Saturday with a 10-4 record and already a four-game lead over the second-place Milwaukee Brewers. Based on the Cardinals’ upcoming schedule, that lead could grow quite large by the end of the month. The Cardinals have faced divisional opponents in every game this season except Opening Day...

It's Time To Move On From Tyler Greene

I'm not a major league baseball player. You're not a major league baseball player. We're not in the minority; we're the vast majority. There is no shame in not having success in the highest level of a professional sport. Quite the opposite, it's an honor to be considered worthy of a chance to play in the Majors.Tyler Greene was drafted with the last pick in the...

Cardinals put injured Jay on 15-day DL

Center fielder Jon Jay was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday by the St. Louis Cardinals because of shoulder soreness. Quick reaction saves World Series trophy

When the St. Louis Cardinals loaned their 2011 World Series trophy to their Double-A affiliate in Springfield, Mo., for the weekend, they had no idea they were putting it in harms way. But for a brief second Saturday afternoon, flashbacks of Alabama's BCS Championship crystal shattering on the floor and a series of other famous trophy mishaps couldn't help but creep into...

Carpenter, Boggs making best of second chance

LaHair Wins Motte’s 12-Pitch Battle

With a two-out, two-run walk-off single off St. Louis closer Jason Motte, the Cubs’ Joe Mather became Monday night’s unlikeliest hero. But all you had to do was ask him — before the traditional shaving cream pie to the face, of course — and he’d tell you (as he told WGN after the game) the man truly responsible for the Cubs’ ninth-inning rally was Bryan LaHair. The 29...

Cardinals-Cubs Preview

(AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals' rotation has done an excellent job so far, which could be even more important with two big bats out of the lineup. The Cardinals will try for a third straight win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series at Wrigley Field. Led by a rotation boasting a 2.75 ERA, St. Louis is off to a promising start with one of...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals – Game 15

I wouldn’t say the Bucco bats came alive yesterday, but offensively one really good thing happened.  Pedro Alvarez had two hits. Not only that he was basically robbed of another hit by a great diving play. I think it’s time to just move him up in the order.  I mean he might not be hitting [...]
