Detroit Tigers starter Rick Porcello has struggled in the past against the Texas Rangers, with Josh Hamilton doing some of that damage this year.
Porcello's worst career regular-season ERA against an AL opponent is the work of the high-scoring Rangers heading into the opener of a three-game set Monday night in Arlington.
The right-hander is 1-2 with a 12.27 ERA in three outings against Texas (45-28), including his shortest effort over his last three seasons April 21. Porcello (4-5, 4.95 ERA) was tagged for nine runs over one-plus inning in a 10-4 defeat in the opener of a doubleheader.
Hamilton hit a three-run homer off Porcello in that contest after previously being 0 for 3 against him.
Numerous other Rangers, though, have excellent regular-season numbers against Porcello. Ian Kinsler is 4 for 5, David Murphy 5 for 7 with a homer, Michael Young 4 for 7 and Nelson Cruz and Adrian Beltre have each gone 3 for 8.
Porcello is 0-3 with a 12.08 ERA in three starts against the AL ...

The first time was much better for Texas Rangers rookie Justin Grimm.
Nine days after his impressive winning major league debut, and never pitching above Double-A before that, Grimm allowed six runs and eight hits while facing only 12 batters in an 8-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.

Matt Harrison pitched a nice game tonight. Until he left after the 5th inning with a sore left hip or lower back tightness. The sports outlets can’t agree on the diagnosis. But either way ….
This pitching staff cannot afford another injury. Do you hear me, Matt Harrison? You need to hang in there. We need you. Please and...
Last night's win was a good thing for the Pirates, because over the next two afternoons they're going to face Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, who combined to strike them out 27 times in 16 innings last month. It's true that this Pirate team is a bit different from the Pirate team that Verlander and Scherzer so thoroughly dominated, in that it looks like they can generally...
Justin Verlander pitched a five-hitter Sunday, Quintin Berry hit a two-run shot for his first major league home run and the Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2.
Berry also scored the go-ahead run on Delmon Young's single in the eighth, an inning after Garrett Jones tied it with a two-run homer.
