Torii Hunter described the pain from being hit in the elbow as the worst pain ever as he tried to sleep on it Wednesday night.  Fortunately, that pain has subsided and his range of motion has improved.  Hunter would likely be playing this weekend if he was not taking time off to see his two sons graduate. Tony Paul of The Detroit News says Hunter was able to turn his arm around the elbow with no problem and no apparent pain yesterday when he spoke with reporters.  Hunter did say it was still a little sore, but he's a competitor and he'll be ready to go when he returns from the graduation ceremonies this weekend. "I'll strap it on. Let's go," Hunter said. "I'm a tough cookie now. I got a track record." Hunter was hit by a pitch from Pirates' pitcher Bryan Morris Wednesday night.  The beaning forced Hunter from the game and he was not able to start yesterday.  Hunter was available for pinch-running duties, but he was not used. Blogging for Susie The Tigers signed Hunter this past offseason.  He's had quite the successful career - mostly with the Los Angeles Angels.  However, Hunter made a name for himself in Minnesota.  With the Twins, Hunter became an All-Star outfield.  He won Gold Gloves, he got MVP votes, and he helped the Twins become a successful team.  But then he moved on.  Overall, Hunter is a .278/.336/.465 career hitter.  He's hitting .312 on the season for the Tigers. Detroit Tigers: settle in Jose Valverde haters

Easily the most enjoyable thing about watching Detroit Tigers closer Jose Valverde blow a save is perusing Twitter in the immediate aftermath. The seething hatred that fans conjure up in 140 characters or less is often a thing of beauty. In fact, it may be the only enjoyment that can be obtained from such a horrific event. The embattled closer who somehow made it look fairly easy...

Umpire gets drilled in the groin by foul ball

During Thursday night's Tigers-Pirates game at PNC Park, Detroit center fielder Andy Dirks fouled off a pitch from Pittsburgh pitcher Jeff Locke...and the ball bounced up and knocked home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez right in the groin. Thankfully for Gonzalez, it wasn't a direct impact and the ball was bouncing off of the ground, otherwise he could have had a lot more pain...

Game 2013.52: Tigers at Pirates

29-22, 1st place, 1.5 games up on Cle. Last night’s game was playing out rather nicely until Sanchez took a sharp detour in the 7th that resulted in a 4 run frame for the Pirates, and a 5-3 loss for the Tigers. The Tigers now find themselves in peril of the dreaded 1-3 series, or a mini-sweep, depending on how you look at it. Fister looks to right the ship tonight for the Tigers...

Justin Verlander To Enter The Home Run Derby?

Justin Verlander is arguably the best pitcher in the game, but it’s safe to say his hitting skills leave A LOT to be desired. With that said, Verlander isn’t content to let a little thing like his .000 lifetime batting average ruin his dream of being in the home run derby. Verlander took to twitter on Friday to semi-troll, he posted the link to the 2013 Home Run Derby voting...

Tigers' offense puts on a show

If Justin Verlander really wants a wild-card spot into next month's Home Run Derby, he's going to have to fight off his own teammates. The Detroit Tigers homered four times in the fourth inning of Saturday's game in Baltimore, including a set of back-to-back-to-back homers, followed by a grand slam. Victor Martinez started the inning with a line drive over the right...

Justin Verlander wants to hit in the Home Run Derby

Justin Verlander wants in on the Home Run Derby at the MLB All-Star Game, and the Detroit Tigers ace is trying to launch a write-in campaign to get himself in the event. The whole thing started when a fan tweeted to Verlander on Friday telling him she voted for the pitcher to participate in the [...]

Verlander campaigns for Home Run Derby

Look out Prince, JV is coming for your crown. Justin Verlander and the Tigers launched one of the more improbable write-in campaigns in human history on Friday, trying to get baseball's worst hitter into this year's Home Run Derby. At 0-for-24 in his career, Verlander trails just Jose Contreras (0-29), Brandon McCarty (0-27) and Jon Lester (0-25) among active pitchers....

Game 53: Tigers at Orioles

The Detroit Tigers (29-23, clinging by .5 to first in the AL Central, losing streak at 3) travel to Baltimore and Camden Yards to take on the Baltimore Orioles (30-24, third place AL East) in a three-game series. Local temperatures will be in the 90s for the day game Saturday, while rain may affect the Sunday game. Looks like it’s going to be a bit hot and sticky all weekend out...

What to Make of Anibal Sanchez

In baseball, there are dozens of different statistics that fans use to decide who the best player is. One of the most common stats used is WAR. (For those of you that don’t know, WAR stands for Wins Above Replacement, or how much more valuable a player is opposed to a replacement player). So far in 2013, no pitcher has a higher WAR than Anibal Sanchez, who is currently pacing baseball...

Tigers Bats Wake Up, Valverde Falters In 7-5 Walkoff Loss

[show_scoreboard scbd_id="66"]   It took a few games of questions, but the Detroit Tigers were finally able to figure out their hitting woes when they were defeated in walk off fashion by the Baltimore Orioles 7-5 tonight. The five runs were two more than the Tigers have scored in the past three games, when they were shut out in two of the three games....

Valverde implodes, O's get walk-off

Chris Dickerson hit a three-run, game-ending homer with two outs in the ninth inning, capping an four-run uprising against Jose Valverde that carried the Baltimore Orioles past the Detroit Tigers 7-5 Friday night. GIF: Jason Hammel Ejected After Hitting Matt Tuiasosopo

Jason Hammel would like to forget the fourth inning he had against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. After allowing three straight homers to start the inning, Hammel hit Matt Tuiasosopo with a pitch and was immediately ejected by home-plate umpire Hunter Wendlestat. A GIF of the incident, via Hammel and the Orioles argued that he had thrown an off-speed pitch — it...

Tigers-Orioles Preview

In the midst of the best start by a Detroit pitcher in six years, Max Scherzer is more pleased about what he's been able to do for the Tigers than his own success. Looking to improve to 8-0, Scherzer tries to help the visiting Tigers avoid matching a season-high fourth straight loss Friday night against the surging Baltimore Orioles. Scherzer (7-0, 3.42 ERA) has allowed two...
