It was the summer of 1998 in Santa Clara, California when Trevor Bauer threw his first pitch. A first-year player in what was largely a second-year team, his team’s starting pitcher had worked himself into a base-loaded, zero-out situation and the 7-year-old kid from North Hollywood was called upon to get out of the jam. He remembers standing on the mound prior to warm-ups thinking to himself, “So, I have to throw this thing over there, huh?” He doesn’t recall if that first pitch was a strike. He doesn’t recall if a run or two had crossed the plate. But he knows that he managed to work his way out of the inning and would live to throw again. Fourteen years later, Bauer finds himself in a cooler climate — having played in southern California, UCLA, and the ranks of the Arizona Diamondbacks — with similar pressures. Sure, the base paths are no longer cluttered with 7-year olds, but he has gone from one of the top prospects the game has to offer to being traded by the team which drafte...

MLB News: No players elected to HOF; Kenny Lofton and Sandy Alomar off ballot
If you were reading and paying much attention to the buzz surrounding this year’s HOF voting, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the BBWAA didn’t elect anyone to the hall this year. Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and those associated with the steroid era were denied. The closet was Craig Biggio, who fell 39 votes shy of the 75 percent required...
2013 IBI Positional Rankings: The Right-handed relievers
We continue with our 2013 prospect coverage here at the IBI with a look at the right-handed relievers in the Indians system. The Indians are overloaded with right-handed relief prospects and it is arguably the one position they are deepest at in the entire system. At the moment they have a Major League bullpen bursting at the seams with right-handed relievers, and that is the same...

Quincy Latimore for Jeanmar Gomez
The Pirates have traded organizational player Quincy Latimore for perennial sixth starter type pitcher Jeanmar Gomez. My feelings haven’t changed much since I wrote about him in a preview last season. Jeanmar Gomez… Jeanmar Gomez…. Jeanmar Gomez….. What is there to say about Jeanmar Gomez? Honestly I don’t really know. He spends a lot of [...]

Winter Leagues Recap: Alen Hanson Sighting
In Australian Baseball League action from today, Adelaide lost 11-7 despite a big day from the recently traded Quincy Latimore. Just one day after being sent to the Cleveland Indians for Jeanmar Gomez, Latimore went 3-for-4, with three RBI’s, two doubles, a run scored and a walk. Something for Nothing
A week after dropping Jeanmar Gomez from the 40 man roster the Indians have traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Quincy Latimore. Not only does this exponentially increase the amount of Quincy's in the Indians farm system, but it allowed them to gain some advantage from losing Gomez. This is the ideal way to lose a player. Gomez has had a few years to earn his...
