Well, that's a first. The trick may have done well to keep Hudson dry, but it didn't do well enough to guide him to a victory. Hudson was the game's losing pitcher after the Braves were dealt a 3-2 defeat at Petco Park.

Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 3-2 defeat to the Padres on Tuesday, clinching a losing mark for Atlanta's final West Coast trip of the regular season:
1. Tim Hudson held up his end of the bargain in SoCal even if it meant back-to-back losses against the Dodgers and Padres
For the trip out West, Hudson allowed four earned runs and nine hits over 14...
Kris Medlen does not want to head to the bullpen when Brandon Beachy comes off the disabled list. Medlen is the only member of the Braves rotation who has experience in the bullpen.
Many figured that the Braves would place Beachy in the rotation spot of Julio Teheran. That is far from certain with Teheran pitching better of late.
“I’ll let it be known that I don’t want to go...
Normally, rosin bags are used by baseball pitchers to keep their hands dry and prevent blisters from building up.
Last night during the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson found a new use for it by drying the sweat off of his bald head:

In retirement, Chipper Jones has been required to move on.
In the case of his impressive mansion in Roswell, Ga., the Braves legend is taking the idiom literally.
Jones, the 1999 National League MVP and eight-time All-Star, has put the 3.19 million home up for sale.
Besides the fact that it is the former home of a potential Hall of Fame baseball player, the house comprises eight...
ATLANTA It's nearly impossible to envision the return of Brandon Beachy, last season's National League ERA before being shut down for Tommy John surgery, creating an issue for the Braves' brass. And yet, the day is fast approaching and Atlanta still needs to create space on the roster for its could-be No. 1 starter.
There is no definitive blueprint for how to wean a...
Jason Heyward blasted two home runs Monday night
The Atlanta Braves bats came alive in the ninth inning on Monday night, but it was a little too late, as they fell to the San Diego Padres, 7-6. Evan Gattis and Jason Heyward led an Atlanta comeback that came up short, as Justin Upton struck out to end the game.
Julio Teheran struggled after his one-hit performance against the Pirates...
Retired Braves third baseman Chipper Jones earned a cool $168,000,000 in his 19-year playing career. With his days of peppering the gaps in Turner Field over, Jones no longer needs his 23,504 square-foot Roswell, Georgia mansion (as if he ever needed it).
The home of a guy named Larry who collected 2,627 career hits sports seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, three half bathrooms...
Maholm was shaky Wednesday afternoon The San Diego Padres got the bats going early against Atlanta Braves starter Paul Maholm, and Edinson Volquez pitched seven stellar innings, as the Padres completed the series sweep of the Braves on Wednesday afternoon, 5-3. San Diego stayed true to their series form, by jumping on the Braves early. In the previous two games of the series, the...
This fan literally launches himself over a railing and into some bushes trying to snag a Jayson Heyward home run ball, but he wasn't even close, ouch.
Taking three cuts after the Braves made a push with five runs in the last two innings but fell to the Padres 7-6 Monday in San Diego.
1. The rotation's streak came to a screeching halt
Coming off the strongest performance of his young career, Julio Teheran took a step back and it brought an end to an impressive run by the Braves starters.
Atlanta's starters had allowed two...
Padres fan dives into bushes for Jason Heyward HR ball A San Diego Padres fan made a hilarious attempt to chase down a home run ball hit by Atlanta Braves batter Jason Heyward by diving into some bushes during Monday night's game at Petco Park. It happened in the top of the eighth inning as Heyward hit the HR to right field and the ball found its way into an alleyway between...
The San Diego Padres made it two in a row over the Atlanta Braves, as Chase Headley homered and starter Andrew Cashner out-pitched Tim Hudson. Hudson was sharp again on Tuesday night. But he did not get the run support he deserved and absorbed the loss. The win over the Braves has given the Padres a chance to sweep the series tomorrow afternoon. The Braves got on the board first...
Pitching in his first game since sustaining a left oblique injury in a game back on April 28, right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed a scoreless 2 2/3 innings against the Gwinnett Braves Tuesday.
After throwing 41 pitches (he was limited to 50), Matsuzaka exited the game and everything went downhill from there.
Reliever Paolo Espino, Cole Cook and Bryan Price combined to surrender...
Andrew Cashner outdueled Tim Hudson, Chase Headley homered and the San Diego Padres beat the Atlanta Braves for the second straight game, 3-2 Tuesday night.
Cashner (5-3) pitched a career high eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one. It marked the seventh straight time that he has pitched six-plus innings. At one point Cashner retired 10 straight...
