The “This Is SportsCenter” commercials are absolutely hilarious, and have become almost iconic at ESPN. Countless sports personalities have starred in these commercials over the years. In the most recent one, Pittsburgh Pirates’ outfielder and reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen leads an outlaw group of pirate-themed mascots into ESPN’s offices to loot and plunder everything in sight.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2014 Team Preview

Today’s season preview is written by one of my good friends and a long-time Pirates fan who has seen Roberto Clemente play live. He grew up near Pittsburgh watching Zambelli Fireworks nights and can recite Pirates history with the best of them. My good friend Matt Sarich hopes for another year like last year but worried about the team relapsing after their first loss in Spring...

Cubs catcher Wellington Castillo takes foul tip to the junk (GIF)

Your Opening Day was better than Cubs catcher Wellington Castillo’s.  He went 0 for 2 with two punchouts, caught ten innings and called the pitch that Neil Walker killed for the Pirates’ 1-0 walk-off win.  But all that paled in comparison to the foul tip he caught off the bat of Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez. The worst part – he didn’t catch it at all. via @samthomas86...

Andrew McCutchen celebrates win by punching Neil Walker in backside

Pirates second baseball hit game-winning homer in 10th inning.

A Perfect Opener: Pirates 1, Cubs 0

You couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon on Monday at PNC Park. Wonderful weather, a packed house, nice pregame ceremonies, a pretty exciting pitcher’s duel, and a walkoff homer. Neil Walker saved the day in the 10th inning with a blast over the Clemente Wall, sending the Pirates to a 1-0 win and a 1-0 record. That blast was the only score of the game, but there was plenty...

Tough Decisions: Gregory Polanco

Coming off their first playoff appearance in a thousand years, the Pittsburgh Pirates find themselves in a tough spot. On paper, they’re clearly second-best in their division. A whopping 30 out of 31 of us predicted the St. Louis Cardinals will win the National League Central. We did pick the Pirates to take the second […]

Opening Day morning - What I'm most interested in

Today is one of the most exciting days of the year, it's Opening Day of Major League Baseball. This has been one of my favorite days of the year for quite some time now, and this year's especially exciting now that I know for a fact that it is possible for the Pirates to make the playoffs. I'll be at the game today, so if anybody wants to say hello or share an adult beverage...

A few thoughts about Barry Bonds

If we’re being perfectly honest, I hadn’t planned on writing about Barry Bonds’ presence at Monday’s opener any more than I already had; I was going to mention it in passing, clap politely for Bonds when he was announced, and then go nuts for Andrew McCutchen. People are really fired up about this, though, and it’s one of those things that I think tends to break down along...

MLB Preseason Power Rankings

The MLB Power Rankings are in! Can Andrew McCutchen & the Pirates make the postseason again? Without further ado, the preseason MLB Power Rankings. This week’s...

Cubs, Pirates ready to start anew

PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Pirates will embrace their past before Monday's season opener against the Chicago Cubs.

Replays Won’t Be Perfect, But They’ll Teach Us Something

by: Patrick Reddick They say money can’t buy happiness, but fans sure seemed glad on Monday that Major League Baseball spent $30 million on a new replay room this off-season. Whether that will last is another matter. Both challenges at PNC Park on Opening Day went in the Pirates’ favor, but there are a few issues with the system that will come to center stage sooner or later...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs – Game 1

Here we go again.  Opening Day.   It all starts anew.  Last year’s results?  Ancient history.  This offseason?  A thing of the past. It’s now time to see what this team is made of. Today should be a holiday.  A day that you can quit the incessant babbling about holes in the lineup or platoon…
