Odds have been released for the National League Rookie of the Year Award already. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller was the even-money favorite, followed by Los Angeles Dodgers outfield sensation Yasiel Puig at 3-2. There were no odds released yet on the AL Rookie of the Year winner because no first-year player had totally stood out yet in the Junior Circuit.
However, one candidate may be arriving on the scene and it could alter the AL East race if he’s as good as advertised. The player in question is Tampa Bay’s Wil Myers, who debuted against the Sox on Tuesday. He was considered the top hitting prospect in the majors last season and the Rays got him as the big piece from Kansas City in the James Shields trade.
Tampa Bay wanted to delay his arbitration/free agency clock and thus waited this long to call Myers up. Myers, who ranks No. 4 on MLB.com’s list of the top prospects in the game, hit .286 with 14 homers and 57 RBIs at Triple-A Durham. He had gotten hot lately, battin...

“Injecting one more bat against right-handed pitching that we felt had a chance to do some damage was something that we wanted to do.”
That’s Tampa Bay Rays Executive Vice President Andrew Friedman talking about calling up top prospect Wil Myers to join the big league club. Throughout his press appearance Sunday, Friedman emphasized the rookie’s success against right-handers...
Well, Wil Myers made his debut for the Rays Tuesday. Unfortunately, his bat did not. In a doubleheader in Boston against the Red Sox, the young rookie did not provide much offensive help. In the first game at Fenway, Wil Myers went 0-4 with one strikeout. In Game 2, he went 1-3 with a single. In his first two games at Durham, he went 3-8. A jump from the minors to the majors is not...
Wil Myers, the Tampa Bay Rays' top prospect, makes his major league debut Tuesday when the Rays open a six-day, seven-game road trip with a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
On Sunday night, the Rays announced their intention to promote the promising outfield prospect who was a centerpiece of the seven-player trade last December with the Kansas City Royals...
It was a start. There is little else that can be said about Wil Myers Tampa Bay Rays debut. This will be an evolving story, one that promises twists and turns, ups and downs, and it had to begin somewhere.
That beginning happened on a major stage, certainly. There was a time early Tuesday, with Myers going through his pregame stretches at Fenway Park, when he allowed himself to...
Rays Phenom Wil MyersOne of the most interesting aspects of the upcoming "three games in two days" love fest between Boston and Tampa will be the Fenway debut of the Rays' Uber-Prospect Wil Myers. Myers was the centerpiece of the trade that sent James Shields to Kansas City, and he will now be expected to pump up Tampa's paltry offense. Myers hit a robust .354 in...
With Wil Myers set to make his major-league debut for the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday night, there is a natural comparison that arises between him and another outfielder who made his debut with a different American League club just shy of two calendar years ago. If comparisons are going to be made between Myers and the Angels’ Mike Trout, they should start in 2011, the season where...

The Tampa Bay Rays 22-year-old top prospect Wil Myers is finally coming to the Majors after destroying the minor leagues for the past month. He will be joining an offense that has struggled in the past few years, but has been the sixth best run scoring offense in baseball this season. Rays fans hope Myers can immediately...
After losing three-of-four games to the Kansas City Royals over the weekend, the Tampa Bay Rays wasted no time in calling up their prized acquisition in the offseason to debut on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox. Wil Myers was batting .283 with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs with the Durham Bulls this season [...]
The Tampa Bay Rays have called for reinforcements. Hotshot rookie outfielder Wil Myers, rated by Baseball America as the number four overall prospect in baseball, will make his major league debut today at Fenway Park.
Ever since the blockbuster trade that sent pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis to the Kansas City Royals for a package in which Myers...
The Tampa Bay Rays had a busy weekend as they purchased the contract of outfielder Wil Myers as well as recalled right-handed pitcher Josh Lueke from their Triple-A Durham farm club.
To make room for the duo, the Rays optioned infielder Ryan Roberts to the same minor league affiliate while placing Alex Cobb on the 7-day disabled list due to a concussion.
Cobb has no timetable to...
Tuesday marks the big league debut of two of baseball’s most exciting prospects: Zack Wheeler and Wil Myers.
Both Wheeler and Myers were high first-round talents drafted in 2009, Myers slipped to the third round due to perceived bonus demands. Despite, or perhaps because of, their elite amateur statuses both Wheeler and Myers were traded for established major league All-Stars before...
Baseball’s newest phenom is set to make his major league debut on Tuesday in Game 1 of the doubleheader between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox. Who knows, maybe someday you’ll be able to say you were watching at the beginning of a great career.
Wil Myers will start in right field for the Rays, in basball’s most anticipated debut since perhaps Bryce Harper. The 22-year...
Yesterday was Wil Myers/Zack Wheeler day. At least the hurler held up his end of the bargain as he got off his big league career to a nice start. Prospects are always exciting at all levels of fantasy baseball, but particularly on the daily side of the coin. They always start off at rock bottom prices, but as we have seen with Yusiel Puig, that doesn’t last long.
Today, I’m playing...
We’re nearly at the halfway point in the baseball season, so how many trades have you made this season? Acquiring BJ Upton and CJ Wilson for Wil Myers and Andrew Cashner marked trade #4 for me. In a season where I look poised to miss a top 3 finish for the first time since 2006, I’m doing everything I can to improve.
I recently had a friend tell me that he wouldn’t complete...
TAMPA, Fla. Drew Henson has watched Wil Myers swing on occasion. He has seen the stats, read the reports. A decade removed from his life as baseballs Mr. Cant Miss who did just that, he understands the pressure involved with a high-profile call-up. A cautionary tale is part of his history.
Hensons has advice for Myers, the Tampa Bay Rays prized outfield prospect who made his major...
