Cano goes deep for his fourth home run of the season. Arizona Diamondbacks 2 — New York Yankees 4   Robinson Cano puts the Yankees ahead in tonight’s 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.   Robinson Cano, named after Jackie Robinson, a man honored throughout baseball, had the hit of the game tonight. On a 3-2 changeup, Robinson Cano hit an absolute bomb into the right field bleachers for a three-run home run in the fourth inning. This changed a two-run deficit into a one-run lead. Despite this being the only hit with runners in scoring position (1 for 8), it would be enough. Chris Stewart, Kevin Youkilis, and Travis Hafner all had two hits in tonight’s game with Hafner’s being two doubles. Eduardo Nunez would bring in the other run on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Vernon Wells is the only Yankee in the lineup to be hitless.   Ivan Nova started tonight’s game and got through the minimum innings to earn his first win of the season. Nova would have a slow start to the game but would settle down. He would give up two runs in the third inning but that would be it. In five innings, Nova gave up two runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. He needed 94 pitches to finish five innings, compared to 96 in his losing effort against the Detroit Tigers. The bullpen would bring its best to the mound. Boone Logan would go 1.1 perfect innings in his appearance with two strikeouts. Joba Chamberlain would go 0.2 of an inning and also get all his batters out. David Robertson would get the eighth inning and would allow a hit but would keep the scoreless streak going through the bullpen. Finally, on a day when everyone wears the number 42, the lone active player wearing it on a regular basis got the ninth inning. Mariano Rivera took the mound with a two-run lead and would strikeout the first batter he faced. A pop out and a ground out would end the night, extending the Yankees winning streak to two.   Win – Ivan Nova (1-1) Loss – Brandon McCarthy (0-2) Save – Mariano Rivera (3)   Notables Diamondbacks *Cody Ross – 2 for 4, RBI (1) *Miguel Montero – 1 for 2, BB, RBI (8) Yankees *Robinson Cano – 2 for 4, R, BB, 3-Run Home Run (4) in the 4th, 3 RBI (11) *Eduardo Nunez – 1 for 3, RBI (2)   Current Yankees Record: 7-5 (Streak – W2)   Get your Yankees Tickets from our friends at TiqIQ.
