What else can baseball fans do in January but dream of October? In You May Say I'm a Dreamer, the Outside Corner staff will imagine the route to a World Series in 2013 title for all 30 teams. In what many fans consider a nightmare, the New York Yankees are once again champions of baseball. The Yankees did what the Yankees have done for most of baseball history: they dominated the regular season, rolled into the playoffs, and dispatched all who went against them. New York was carried throughout the regular season by their star second baseman, Robinson Cano. With Cano hitting free agency after the season, he smashed a career-best 36 homers, hit .323, and posted a .941 OPS while winning a Gold Glove and the AL MVP award, setting himself up for a massive payday from the Yankees or another team this winter.  With a season like that from your second baseman, who needs much production elsewhere? Well, the Yankees got production from a variety of sources aside from Cano. Despite missing all of April, Curtis Granderson returned in May to hit 33 homers in the season's final five months, logging 124 games for New York despite the injury. First baseman Mark Teixeira hit 27 homers with an .853 OPS, slowing talk of a decline in his career after a disappointing 2012 season. Finally, there's Derek Jeter, who returned from a broken ankle in last year's playoffs to tally 207 hits and hit .309 for the champions. Oh, and what about Alex Rodriguez? Well, the dreams of Yankee fans and sancitmonious baseball writers across the country came true when Rodriguez retired after breaking his surgically repaired hip during a rehab assignment, saving the team millions of dollars in salary over the next few seasons and giving them more financial flexibility for the future. When it comes to the pitching staff, CC Sabathia once again carried the rotation. Sabathia threw 231 innings for the Yankees with a 2.74 ERA, deservedly winning the AL Cy Young award. Sabathia got support in the rotation from veterans Hiroki Kuroda and Andy Pettitte, with both throwing over 200 innings and posting ERAs under 3.70. In the bullpen, it was all about Mo. Mariano Rivera saved 42 games witih a 1.61 ERA, putting an exclamation point on his career. The Yankees won 101 games during the regular series, steamrolling the rest of the AL East so much so that the division didn't even get a wild card team into the playoffs. In the ALDS, New York faced off with the wild card Oakland Athletics, and the low budget A's fell in four games thanks to a potent Yankees offense. New York once again took on the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS after a disappointing defeat in 2012, and the Yankees returned the favor by winning in six games in 2013. Finally in the World Series, it was the Yankees and Braves in a rematch of the 1996 and 1999 World Series. The result this time was the same as in those two years: the Yankees won, the Braves lost, and the Bronx went wild.
