Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Two seasons ago, when the Minnesota Twins clinched the American League Central title, infielder Nick Punto was celebrating with teammates when his wife, Natalie, accidentally ripped his shirt, sending buttons flying and sparking uproarious, belly-aching laughter.

With that, “The Shredder” was born.

“The Shredder?” Punto said, smiling deviously as he prepared for the Red Sox   workout yesterday at JetBlue Park. “I don’t know too much about him. Hopefully you’ll meet him this year, though. The Shredder comes out when good things happen.”

By all accounts, Punto is mild-mannered and rational. He speaks in a low, measured tone. He’s a 34-year-old husband and father, and after 11 seasons in the majors with three teams, the Red Sox’ new utility infielder has seen almost everything.

The Shredder is his alter ego. Inspired by his wife’s gaffe, Punto decided it would be a hoot to celebrate walkoff victories and other festive moments by sneaking up on teammates and shredding their dress shirts by yanking down on the collar or the top button.

Well then. This isn't awkward at all. Stripping people while celebrating? Punto would've been a perfect fit for the '04 team when hijinks like this were not just accepted, they were promoted. With the team that he's on now, will this even be allowed?

This could lead to some great humor. I want to see the reactions when he does this to certain people, like Josh Beckett. Imagine if Punto rips his necklace while attempting a shred (or is it Shred?). No way he takes it as cool as Chris Carpenter did.  Beckett would be PISSED. There's a  50/50 chance Beckett throws a punch. NO ONE MESSES WITH THE NECKLACE.

Other people that could lead to hillarious Shreds: David Ortiz, Dice-K, and Bobby Valentine. If Punto doesn't Shred these guys, his season is a failure. No excuses Punto. Get to Shredding.
