Yu Darvish and David Freese have won the “Final Vote” for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. Both players will enjoy their first All-Star appearance, as the final selections came via online fan voting. Yu Darvish beat out Jake Peavy (Chicago White Sox), Jason Hammel (Baltimore Orioles), Jonathan Broxton (Kansas City Royals) and Ernesto Frieri (Los Angeles Angels). David Freese received the voting edge over Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals), Michael Bourn (Atlanta Braves) and Aaron Hill (Arizona Diamondbacks). The National League only had four finalists after Chipper Jones was named to the team as an injury replacement for Matt Kemp.

Yu Darvish is a Major League Baseball rookie but is already a legend in Japan, as he was known to be the best Japanese professional pitcher for a number of years. The Texas Rangers made a huge splash in the MLB market this past off-season with the signing of Darvish. While his 10-5 record and 3.59 ERA are worthy All-Star numbers, Darvish was rather humble with his words to reporters. As a matter of fact, he disclosed the fact that he didn’t vote for himself. Here’s what Darvish had to say:

If I am available to pitch and if I do get in the game, I’d like to display the best performance I can for the fans to enjoy. Do I still think I’m worthy or not? Personally, I voted for Peavy.

I feel very good. I know the way I got selected was vote by the fans, so I appreciate all the fans who voted for me. So I’m looking forward to it.

The American League team will be managed by the Texas Rangers’ Ron Washington. The Texas skipper is more than happy to have his eighth Rangers player added to the roster. As to Darvish, Washington had this to say:

I always thought he was an All-Star, and the fans proved that out. I’m very happy for Yu. He’s come over here under some tough conditions, and he’s worked hard to be where he is, and he deserved the right to be an All-Star.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese is best known for his clutch and World Series MVP performance in last year’s “Fall Classic.” He will reunite with his 2011 World Series winning manager Tony La Russa, who retired after last season. La Russa is managing the National League team. In 2012, Freese is batting .285, with 13 home runs and 50 RBI.

What may overshadow Freese’s selection is the fact that rookie phenom Bryce Harper was not selected. While Freese is the reigning World Series MVP, Harper is the current talk of the National League, as the 19 year-old stud has taken the baseball world by storm. With all of the hype, one could easily assume that MLB would have loved to see Harper in the “Midsummer Classic.” Nonetheless, Freese is highly deserving and will represent the National League with honor. Here’s a recent tweet from Freese after getting the word on the selection:

#Cardinalnation what can I say… beast mode! U all went to town for me. Thank u so much! To join such great company in KC is such an honor. — David Freese (@dfreese23) July 5, 2012

Congratulations to all of the 2012 MLB All-Stars. The game will be played on July 10 in Kansas City. Kauffman Stadium is the place and FOX is televising nationally.
