MLB Trade Rumors reminds us that 25-year-old Japanese starting pitcher Yu Darvish intends to pitch for an MLB team in 2012. According to their post, the Jays, Nationals, Yankees, Rangers, Orioles, Red Sox and Rays have all been linked to Darvish in various reporters over the last year. The Mets and Braves, among six others, also ‘showed interest’ in Darvish last summer, according to a Sanso report last winter. To be fair, one year ago, I never got the sense the Mets were ever interested in signing Darvish. The reality is, the Mets have scouts in Japan all year, so the fact that they scouted Darvish does not necessarily mean they were ready to make an offer, had he been made available by his team. Of course, that could certainly be different today… From what I recall, last winter, when there was talk be could be posted, teams seemed willing to pay for Darvish a bit more than what the Yankees paid to negotiate with Kei Igawa, which I guess would be around $25 million or so, after wh...
