As you’d expect, by Friday of Super Bowl week the media are on their last legs. They’ve eaten like pigs for four days and four nights, they’ve had multiple hurricanes at Pat O’Briens, the legendary New Orleans bar. They’ve asked Jerry Rice more questions than you could possibly imagine. They radio guys have interviewed Frank Caliendo way too many times. What have I learned this week in New Orleans? There’s not really that much to talk about. A game takes place on Sunday and P.R. handlers have squashed the buzz. There hasn’t been an incident on Bourbon Street. There hasn’t been a football player arrested. The big news is actually how dead New Orleans seems. One ticket broker told me that you can get into Sunday’s game for $1,100 and that number is quickly dropping. The reason: there are no hotel rooms. Casual fans aren’t driving in. If you want to stay in New Orleans, you must either pay $2,500 to shack up at the Doubletree or sleep in a car. The atmosphere is being controlled by corporate suits who aren’t pounding Hand Grenades at the Tropical Isle. Cruising Around The New Orleans Convention Center: • Gina Carano can walk around Radio Row and barely a soul even recognizes the MMA fighter and now actress. • There’s a Zatarin’s lunch station that serves jumbalaya and gumbo for those media members who just haven’t had enough around the city. For those who are bored from working, there are pool tables to use. The food station, as you’d expect, runs out of food rather quickly. • Was told that the Michael Irvin party on Thursday night was sparsely attended and that it was a rather dull event. He obviously didn’t have a machine launching blow into the air. That would’ve been a real Michael Irvin party. • Here are the Chiefs ownership seats at the 2:00 warning for Roger Goodell’s press conference. Guess they were stuck at Rick’s Cabaret Bourbon Street.     • NFL Network’s Jaime Maggio interviewing a sorta shaved Michael Phelps. It’s good to see that ridiculous hipster garbage on his face is history.     • Yes, Victor Cruz wore red pants to Radio Row. Not digging the use of the top button. Filed under: Super Bowl XLVII
