There was no need for a third man in the cage when Hunt took on Stefan "The Skyscraper" Struve during the UFC on Fuel TV 8 co-main event in Saitama. Mark Hunt calls off his own fights, and after landing a left hook of doom that dropped his 7 foot tall opponent, he knew the next step would be heading over to collect his KO of the night bonus. For Struve it would be heading to the nearest hospital to fix that broken jaw.

The Stats:

Getting hit by Mark Hunt once, let alone 47 times of the significant variety has to be rather costly. Stefan Struve has the bill from the Saitama Medical Center to prove it. Struve fired back with 24 significant strikes of his own but none of them were able to do even close to as much damage as those of Hunt's. Hunt hit one of his two take downs and surprisingly was able to hang with Struve on the mat after working his ground game over at ATT. Hunt was able to pass Struve's guard twice and even pulled off one reversal. All stats via fightmetric.

The Finish:

At the 1:44 marker of the 3rd and final round Mark Hunt landed a left hook on Stefan Struve that didn't knock him unconscious, it just knocked him on his ass and left him with a broken jaw. We'll post a picture of the X-ray later, it's nasty. Mark Hunt walked away knowing that the damage was done. Referee Herb Dean went to see if Struve could continue, after he realized he could not the fight was called off.  The streaky Hunt improves to 9-7 finding himself on a 4-fight win streak. Struve's 4-fight win streak comes to a close as he drops to 25-6.

What's Next?

With his improved ground game I'm starting to truly believe that Mark Hunt has a shot against anyone in the UFC heavyweight division not names Cain Velasquez. I say let's get him in there with another high level K-1 guy in Alistair Overeem. But for that we'd have to wait for the smoke to clear between "The Reem" and Junior dos Santos this Memorial Day weekend. The clock is ticking on Hunt's career so waiting isn't an option. We need to schedule a fight for this guy as soon as possible. The first name that comes to mind for me after Overeem is Shane Carwin. Carwin has been on the shelf since the summer of '11 when his face was butchered by JDS for 15 full minutes and not one less. A good stand and bang war with Mark Hunt could be just what the doctor ordered when and if Carwin does finally return to action.  Struve is one of the most active guys in his division. At the age of 25 he's already competed 31 times, and after having his jaw broken by Mark Hunt it may finally be time for him to take a little break. When he does return though he deserves a big fight. I'd like to see him get Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to close out the year. Big Nog is currently scheduled to take on Fabricio Werdum this summer in Brazil after the two men finish their coaching duties for the 2nd season of TUF Brazil. Regardless of the outcome, I like Nogueira vs. Struve a ton. Whether the two men stay upright or if it hits the mat, this is one that's is worthy of co-headlining any pay-per-view or free TV card.
