Many of us wondered how much effort and resources Kevin Harvick would get during the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series campaign after he and Richard Childress Racing announced they’d part ways following the year. After a ho-hum start to the season where he finished between positions 12th-14th in six of the first eight races, he’s arguably one of the hottest drivers in the series since his win at Richmond in late April. Harvick has won twice in the last seven races and has six top 10′s in that seven race span. His lone finish outside the top 10 was a 40th at at Talladega. Since the April race at Kansas, he has finishes of 1st, 40th, 1st, 8th, 9th, 5th, 1st, 8th, 9th and 2nd. In coming weeks, he’s going to tracks where he runs decent: Sonoma and Kentucky followed by one of his best tracks on the circuit at Daytona on July 7th. This good string has taken Harvick from 12th in the Cup Standings at the beginning of May to fourth heading into this weekend’s race at Infineon Raceway. So maybe all the talk of the two splitting way and him being a lame duck turned into not being true. Harvick is on a red hot tear and running at a championship level right now. To make things better for him, the main competition in the four-car Hendrick Motorsports stable is struggling during his hot streak and he’s looking more and more credible for this championship. Both he and RCR want to leave things civil and have no hard feelings. This type of run would certainly do that as Harvick is by far the hottest driver in Cup racing right now.
