Start ‘N’ Park Blog is taking a look back at the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver by driver. This recap will take a look at the driver’s stats, the season’s highlights, the season’s lowlights, what a quick look at next year. This installment takes a look back at Greg Biffle who finished in the 5th place in the final standings. 2012 Statistics: Points: 2,332 Position: 5th Preseason Pick: 13th Starts: 36 Poles: 3 Wins: 2 Top 5s: 12 Top 10s: 21 DNFs: 0 Earnings: $5,683,998 What Was Said Prior To The Season: “It pained me to do it, but I don’t think Biffle makes the Chase again this year. I had a couple of ‘surprises’ to toss in there so someone needed to be bumped out. Biffle just wasn’t consistent when it mattered last year and I don’t know how much has changed. He’ll be aided by the removal of the #6 car. Whenever a team is dropped the hope is that the best of the best are retained. Maybe that will improve his team, or we’re in for another year of asking ourselves what could have been if he raced how he did the first 100 laps during the last 100 laps.” What Happened In 2012: I said if he could finish how he started races, he’d be a title contender. Biffle finally did that in 2012 putting forth one of his best seasons since going full time in the Sprint Cup Series. He led the points after 14 out of the 36 races, he just went flat during the Chase after losing his consistency. He was able to grab two wins at Texas and Michigan while collecting 12 top 5 finishes. With Edwards struggling as much as he did, I wonder if Biffle might be top driver at RFR for 2013. His 2012 was also noted for a great appearance on History Channel’s American Restoration. On To 2013: Biffle will have everything the same for 2013, something his other teammates won’t be able to say. Now that he’s figured out finishing strong during the first part of the season, now he’s got to do that at the close of seasons.
