Not since Man vs Food came to Rochester, NY using NASCAR driver Joey Logano in one of the challenges has there been such a mix of two things I love. Enter now my most beloved defending National Lacrosse League champion Rochester Knighthawks having a Tony Stewart night. Stewart, the three time Sprint Cup Champion, will be at the February 2, 2013 game when the Knighthawks take on the Minnesota Swarm. It was announced over the weekend, I heard about it during the Knighthawks’ preseason game Saturday. Stewart will take in his first NLL game and participate in on-field promotions with fans who will be eligible to win one-of-a-kind Stewart merchandise. So why would Tony Stewart come to Rochester, NY to take in a lacrosse game? There is a racing connection in there, the owner of the Knighthawks is Curt Styres, Styres, along with his brother, are owners of a 3/8 of a mile dirt track in Canada, named Ohsweken Speedway. Stewart has run there in the past, including getting his first career World of Outlaws win at that track. Stewart has also driven for Styres during the Watkins Glen NASCAR weekend at local Canandagua Motorsports Park, a half mile dirt track. Styres has also sponsored J.J. Yeley in a few Sprint Cup races in the past and also entered him in the Chili Bowl Natioanls early in 2012. I vote that Stewart come early enough to enjoy a Rochester tradition, the Garage Plate. Once we have more information about Stewart’s visit, we will be sure to pass that along. I am personally pumped as a NASCAR fan, blogger, and season ticket holder to the Knighthawks, this is a marriage made in heaven. I also vow to do my best to talk to Stewart before/during/or slight there after his appearance in my home town.
