During the NBA lockout Allen Iverson claimed to be interested in making an NBA comeback. Well, it’s already February and he has yet to land anywhere.

But fear not AI fans, there is hope that he will play professional basketball this year, only it won’t exactly be where he was thinking. On Monday Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Iverson’s representatives have contacted numerous NBA teams but have yet to gain any traction. However, recently Puerto Rico’s professional league has started talking to the 36-year-old about a possible contract.

Now, it is being reported that there may be a bidding war for Iverson’s services in second-tier leagues. Apparently a Venezuelan team, Guaros de Lara, has entered the mix for the 11-time All-Star. In addition to the Venezuelan squad, Puerto Rican club Indios de Mayaguez is interested in AI.

One Puerto Rican team, Mets de Guaynabo, turned down the opportunity to sign Iverson.

Regardless of whether or not “The Answer” ends up playing overseas, a return to the NBA is highly unlikely.

Iverson has well-documented money issues, and many reports have claimed that he is either broke or in debt thanks to a lavish lifestyle. His latest issue come from jewelry purchases of over $675,000, of which he paid only $300,500. Including interest Iverson owed $662,540.

Stephen A. Smith has claimed that Iverson has been banned from casinos in Detroit and Atlantic City and that “numerous NBA sources” Iverson will either drink himself into oblivion or gamble his life away.”

Hopefully none of that is true and AI can find some way to make money.
