Everyone loves to see a match-up for the ages and tonight is one of them as arguably two of the best point guards in the NBA go toe-to-toe for the first time in the 2012-13 season in a Wednesday night showdown.
After missing a month due a broken left index finger, Kyrie Irving is back. His return has been incredible. In the past five games against teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, Irving has been establishing 25.4 points, six assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.
The second-year point guard is making his presence known producing big numbers across the stat sheet and slicing through the defense to find his teammates for the easy basket. Cleveland (5-21) is struggling immensely, but with their star player returns and their self esteem has inclined.
Irving is one of the most athletic figures in the NBA next to Russell Westbrook. He displays his explosion up and down beating the defense up and down the floor.
Then, there is the Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. The Celtics are coming off a troubling road trip and capping off the trip with a 100-89 horrific defeat. This team has to find its groove and starts with Rajon Rondo.
Rondo needs to step it up in all facets from leading the Celtics to making the right decisions. This point guard has so much talent but doesn’t translate onto the hardwood on some nights, which deals with inconsistency.
While he did post 26 points and six assists in the loss, he has to start becoming a true general for Doc Rivers’ team. A good point guard makes every player around them better, kind of like a quarterback makes his receivers. Currently, Rondo isn’t doing that. He is looking to score at his own will way too much. The Celtics play their best game when their point guard showcases a triple-double.
With that, expect Rondo to have flourish a tremendous performance tonight against Kyrie Irving.
Predicition: Boston Celtics 105-Cleveland Cavaliers 91
